Chevy definitely got the payload and towing figures right with this truck. The gen 3 Tacomas actually lost payload over the gen 2. When I tow my 19 cc boat(3400 pounds) with four people in the truck and stuff in the bed, I'm at around 1050 pounds payload(including tongue weight). That's within a hundred pounds of max payload for a gen 3 truck while only towing half the rated weight.

WOW that's quite an endorsement, especially coming from a current TRD Pro owner. Nice change from the typical "Best Resale, Most Dependable etc" mantra.

It's pretty hard to predict resale value & long term dependability on a brand new model that's been out for less than a year

While I think the ZR2 looks good. I'm just a little skeptical of the reliability, first year and all. Personally went thru a nightmare with my 2014 Silverado and really is the reason I bought a Tacoma. Mods galore with the taco, choose your topping, lol. Not so much with the Chebbie however, it does have a diesel. Ahh idiots no manual - thats a deal breaker for me. Realize that us MT owners are maybe 5% of buyers. so ya I really like my truck - It will be more capable and reliable when I'm done adding the fixings, maybe Toyota will wake up. Will see just see and be watching from the sidelines. There's no way I would trade in my taco for a Chebby at this time.

Rake = light truck so it can can actually haul a load without looking like an assmonkey. No rake = Camry.

I hear you there, but that has a lot to do with the individual Dealership or the salesperson you interact with. I bought a 2015 Canyon when they first came out, early on I was shopping for a Tacoma & some of the sales people had an attitude like "This is the deal, take it or leave it", rubbed me the wrong way. I did find one salesperson that was pretty good, but I wasn't quite ready to seal the deal.

Then the Twins came out & I started shopping for them, I visited a number of Dealerships, at many of them I knew more about the trucks than the salespeople did (Because of the Forums). I knew what I wanted so the salesman was not really much help, I just settled for the best deal & bought the truck. GMC is supposed to be a little higher end than Chevy so the service has been great! Some Dealerships sell both Chev & GMC so it wouldn't hurt to possibly visit a GMC Dealer & see if that particular one is more to your liking.

    Old, but this comment. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

    - I've never owned a Chevy, but admit to having owned at least 2 Toyota's. (Then calls others "fanboi's, like Huh?)
-The Chevy service was so horrible, I went a bought a expensive Toyota aka Lexus. (Like their cars will better than their service?)
-I can look good while I sit on the side of the road from numerous Chevy breakdowns.

Stay away from the Chevy bub. Worked in a Chevy dealer for long enough..... I drive TWO Tacomas.

My friend got a solid 16 city and 24 highway @80mph with the same bed rack and 120 gallons of fuel in a transfer tank in the bed of his V6 ZR2. When we all refueled half way through our trip of BBRSP, his ZR2 took nearly half the amout of fuel my GX did, despite him lugging around 100+ gals of fuel. Long story but he borrowed it from work and filled it up for our big bend trip last year the week of/after the hurricane ripped through Houston. One of our friends' GF was pitching a fit about them getting stranded so my buddies answer was bringing a fuck ton of fuel just so she would shut up and let our other friend leave without a serious fight. Stock 31" tires and everything else.

I hate GM but I was begrudgingly impressed with his fuel mileage. Not nearly like my GX which tanks 20% MPG from a fully loaded hatch of camp gear. GM's engine and 8sp trans cal is quite good. the 3.6L is really impressive, effeciency wise, when under increased load. The 8 speed definitetly helps as well, having 2 OD gears.

Honestly, being that he's regeared, flashed, and only doing 55 mph... I wouldn't exactly doubt 25mpg. I wouldn't have beleived it before seeing my buddy pull 24mpg @80 with a solid 1000+ lbs in fuel and gear. :notsure:

I don’t believe that guy in the video, even re geared theres no way he’s getting those numbers on 35s. But it doesn’t have the bumper cut out like the zr2 which ruins aerodynamics. Tires as walls.
My zr2 V6 is stock for the most part, with the addition of 285/70r17 duratracs.
Traded my 2016 tacoma offroad for it.

For fuel mileage, life time average is about 17mpg on 8000miles
But thats alot of highway doing 70-80mph

If you keep it at 60mph and under, the rpm will settle down to about 1600 and cruise right along, done a few 100-200 mile trips like this and got up to 19mpg. But thats the best ive gotten.
For my Canadian folks. Life avg. 13.8L/100. Best i can do is around 12.5/100km under 100kmh

Not close to my tacoma that was 12L/100 and under on 265/75r16 falken at3w
But not as bad as my previous jeep jk.
Still miss the tacoma, so much aftermarket it’s amazing.
ZR2 is kinda of boring, not much too add to it. But it does perform great stock.
No issues to report in reliability or anything along those lines yet.

I think they look great. I wish they had terrible resale like people like to say so I could pick one up cheap but pretty much all modern trucks have great resale value these days. If I was going to move on from my gen 2 I would definitely choose the ZR2 over a third gen.
