Got a lot done yesterday and today. Access panels are basically finished, I did a nice pattern of cordura canvas stretched over wood and dark stained planks. I was originally gonna get a recessed handle for the drawers but found that the screws would go right into the seems of the drawer faces so I went with these instead: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Speaker-ca...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
I also got my skateboard bearings in the other day but I gotta run to fazzios to get some 1" wide rectangular aluminum tube and larger bolts. I haven't started the drawers yet but Ive got all the pieces for the faces cut out and ready to put together so Ill probably do that tomorrow if its rainy. So far so good!

didnt get a whole lot done, just got the drawer frames done and fixed some other minor problems. Gonna pick up aluminum 1x2 tube and new bolts tomorrow morning. I didnt want to put the drawer faces on until after I get the bearings and aluminum bolted on so I don't risk misaligning it. Its not a very waterproof system but Im not all that concerned about water getting in anyway.

Mine. Cooler slides in on the right cut out. Camp chairs behind the cooler under the platform. 48” heavy duty drawer slides. Fully customizable drawer dividers. Wired all my camp lights to the face of it as well.

I'm working on a new drawer design in sketchup and found this SUPER helpful...

    Detailed bed dimensions

Also, remember that when making a new design, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 is actually not true to size. Keep that in mind because 1/32" makes a big difference.

    3/4" Plywood =23/32"
    1/2" Plywood =15/32"
    1/4" Plywood = 7/32"

That's because it's actually metric! 1/2" is really 12mm which when converted to a std. unit of measure the closest in the building industry is 15/32".

Nice looking setup! What did you use for trim?

I just finished designing this and I’m going to make this in a couple weekends. I will be adding wings to go over the sides, I just didn’t add those in, same with a latch. I included my cut list as well, I’ll probably end up getting 2 2x4 23/32”(3/4”) sheetsfor the wings in addition to the 4 4x8 23/32” (3/4”) sheets.

All criticism is welcome! Feel free to use this design if you want!

Looks like a nice design. But that’s gonna be heavy as all get out. I stayed with 1/2” sheets for top and bottom. Ive has a lot of weight on it and it hasnt Failed

You can drop the verticle ply thickness to 1/2" by using T-nuts to carry the load of the bolts. Also eliminates the space taken by the nuts.

Will 1/8” thick wall be thick enough for the 1” square tube sliders? Or should I step it up to 1/4”?

I’m sure it will be haha It’ll be a good excuse to get Dakars lol
I’ll take that into consideration, thanks!

I think it really depends, some plywood is over and some is under. My 1/2" plywood is probably more like 17/32"-9/16"

If you're planning on carpeting to wrap around the edges give yourself at least 1/4" all the way around. Even without carpeting I would give 1/4" just to make sure it will fit. But I'm no expert cabinet maker.

I gave myself 1/4" all the way around and it's still tight with the carpet. If I were doing it again I'd probably give myself 3/8" to allow for the carpet and errant staples.

Also: unofficial poll - gloss or satin drawer face? I'm digging the satin. Whichever wins will get matching grain direction (I'm digging horizontal).

Satin matches better. I would be tempted to prime the whole drawer with Killz and then paint it a grey to match the tuck. Plywood with gloss always looks like 80's conversation van interior, and not in a good way IMO.

That's the look I'm going for. I'm going to rip out the carpet and put in some shag. Disco ball is on order too!

Good thought on the grey but I'm a bit greyed out to be honest.

TBH Bright gloss red would be a good contrast if you are greyed out. It would look good against the carpet too.

I guess I could see that. I didn't really look at it that way when I was doing the work, and in my build it is mostly covered in a heavy rubber mat, so...it has that look instead.
