im thinking about getting some new struts or coils for my lifted Tacoma 2005
Would you guys recommend I get struts or coils. I don’t have the funds to get both right now. I can get four new 5100 struts or I could get the two front 6112 coils ? What would you guys get? Thanks

I guess I need to know why you need new parts. Are they bad?

Usually the shocks go bad before the springs go bad. Change the shocks and you will have a good riding truck.

I don't think you have struts, even though they look like it.

The trucks got about 110k miles and has a newly installed lift kit. I don’t think the shocks or springs were changed it looks like they are the original ones so I was thinking it might ride smoother if I get new ones . It rides very stiff and bumpy which I know is normal since they need to be stiff for off-roading but thinking new ones might help in some way

The previous owner told me it’s a rough country lift but I’m not really sure if that’s true

    Actually it does.

You don't know what you have now; how the lift has been accomplished, or what parts were changed/used

You think it has to be stiff for off road use. Hint: Stock Off Road models have a more compliant ride stock than Sport models.

You don't know the difference between functions of a spring or a shock. If you did, you'd not be asking your particular question, once you figured out what was on the truck now.

None of this is bad. We all have to learn. But when you ask the wrong questions you'll never get the right answer.

So, as @Sig45 suggests, do some reading and learn. There is a high chance you will wind up figuring it out for yourself.

    Now, here's my bet.

To do it right, you'll wind up removing the Rough Country stuff and installing a higher class of parts to solve your issue and make your truck well behaved. Yes, you don't have enough money to do it now. So what? Keep saving until you do, do it once, do it right. :hattip:

Not trying to be rude but did you read the question I wrote? Just don’t want to read a hundred pages of people jabbering that’s all

And yes I’m guessing if you’re going to be off roading you’d probably want a stiffer suspension right? Hint: if it’s loose you’ll probably be bottoming out the whole time...

I was just confused cause the thread he put is titled “Tacoma lift FAQ”??? I didn’t ask about the lift... I asked if I should get shocks or coils.

    Ill keep it simple

Junk country is a spacer lift and most likely blocks in the rear.

Refer to that other link as to why spacers suck.

U want to lift with coils... not spacers.

So, buy new lift coils and struts like 5100s to handle the increased spring rate.
Or buy 5100s alone and set them to ur desired lift height and suffer rough ride if u set em at 2.5"

Or get an assembled adjustable coilover kit.

Dont cheap out... thats what the prior owner did.

Keep saving your money and do it better.

Incorrect.... i suppose the prior owner told u that as a selling point somehow?

    Offroad..... cab is pretty steady.
Suspension is supposed to dance, not the truck.
They could run any suspension they want for the money.... i dont see the truck bouncing around.
Or Bj has it all wrong
