I am trying to install a switch to disable the brake light for hog hunting at night with night vision (private property- no public roads). I know that others have done this by splicing a simple switch into the wire that senses when the brake pedal is depressed. My problem is that there are four wires going into the fitting that plugs into the pedal sensor. Can someone tell me which wire will interrupt the brake light and maybe what the others are for? The 2013 (As well as a few years older) Have an interesting situation. You have two different ways for the stop lights to come one. First is with the normal pressing of the brake pedal, and the other is with the ABS system when it applies the brakes automatically when in a potential skid. While off the main road you probably won't run into the skid situation, it is a good idea to know this as a "just in case" situation.

As for you wanting to cut off the brake light switch signal to the brake lights for normal brake operation, you can put a switch in-line on either the green-white wire which is the power TO the switch, or the blue wire which is the signal FROM the switch.

Thanks guys, this place is amazing.

BamaToy, do you think if I located the wire in the below pic (robbed from a search on this site with thanks to whoever took it) and spliced into it, that I could disable both the reverse lights and brake lights with a single throw/double pole toggle switch?

Just for your info, on 1st gen Tacoma's, the other pair of wires to that switch is for the Cruise Control (so that the CC is shut down when you step on the brake).

The OP truck is a 2013, not a 1st gen....

Cowman, I will have to look at the wiring diagram tomorrow at the shop.

I made the pasture circuit Saturday night with some homemade curtains to block the dash lights and I unplugged the brake sensor plug to see what would happen. Everything worked fine except for one little hiccup... I have an auto transmission and when I disconnected the brake I couldn't disengage the shift lockout without fiddling with the override button. If I brake the circuit on the green wire or blue wire is it going to screw up function of the brake disengaging the shift lock mechanism?

I'm in the middle of wiring in a parking sensor kit and need the brake light signal. Is it from this blue wire on the stop light switch? I'm not showing any power on it with the brake pedal applied.

Many thanks for a quick reply!!

OK to end this already dead thread for good just in case anyone is searching here is what I learned:
The brake light signal can be obtained from the trailer brake harness middle wire of the three small wires. That harness is clipped into the drivers kick panel and not hooked up. I used the trailer brake harness connector that came in a bag with my truck so no cutting was required and it was a green and white on that harness connector. (different colour than the main wiring harness...I think it was blue?)
The red/wht wire shown in the pic above is the reverse light wire. (It was solid red on mine.)
I tapped off IGN2 which is switched power.
Make your own ground and you should have everything you need to install one of those cheap Chinese 8 sensor parking sensor kits. Good luck!
