I've been buying cheap charcoal grills for years which typically only last 2 years before the bottom cooks out. I'm looking for a good gas possibly charcoal grill that will last. What do you have / use? How long has it lasted? I was looking at the Weber spirit or genesis line.

I bought our grill around 1993- not real pretty, but still going strong.IMG_20180407_133115637.jpg IMG_20180407_133138974.jpg

"Buy you last grill first", the advertisement said, lol

We usually use it all year round, surprised how well it has stood up to the elements.

Replaced the original wood with teak early on.

Does a good job cooking whatever we put on it- have even barbequed Thanksgiving turkey.

Ours was US made, heard a rumour some are now made in China....

Can’t go wrong with Weber. Worth every penny.

Mine is probably over 20 years old and I use it year round. Only thing I’ve done to it is replace the original flavorizer bars last year, cost about $40 online. Considering a new one, but don’t need one at all.

We picked up a modern version of @boynoyce grill last week. It was on sale at Lowes for $399. I elected to bring it home in a box and put it together myself.
It has way more parts than any BBQ I have ever put together.
It is built way stronger than and BBQ I have had.
I just looked at the box and like pretty much anything these days it's made in China.

I will have to get a couple better pictures of it tomorrow.

It even has color matched screws.

It should last a long time.

For years i went with the $150-200 grills, only to have them rust out in a couple years. My weber genesis 330 has been hands down worth every penny $750 ish with side burner. First, it cooks at the same heat anywhere on the grate. Second, ive had it for three years and have yet to replace a part, or even close to needing to. In the last year or two, they moved to a open bottom design, which in general signals a redesign. But I would expect the quality to be the same if weber knows whats good for them.

If you can wait until a deal pops up on letgo, craigslist, or offer up you will find a great deal on a weber.
I just picked this up last night for 80 bucks..built back before weber was sold out and shipped their manufacturing overseas.

My father has a 2006 spirit and that thing is a TANK.
I love charcoal, but where I am renting they say I have to use gas(plus it is just plain easier)
I am converting mine to propane from NG(free, I picked up a junker and used the propane parts from it). Total I have 80 bucks in the thing.
It has the original flavor bars, grill, everything.

I was going to cough up the money for a new weber and realized it didn't feel any better than a charbroiler in the store(could have been who put it together) but I wasn't impressed.

That is a nice grill, what I notice versus the older webers? Where you have color matched screws, ours our welded.
    Interesting they went that route.

I was told to buy a stainless grill, and make sure the grates and burner "V's" were stainless too. We got married last year and one of our relatives covered half the price of whatever grill we wanted and we ended up going with one of these: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Nexgril...r-and-Infrared-Technology-720-0882A/206362558

After using it pretty much every other day and not being as thorough with cleaning as I should have been, it's been great. It has little trays that they claim is better for "infrared" cooking, but I pretty much just use them for wood chips when I want a little different flavor for what we're cooking.

I myself am on the market. I've been looking into PK Grills as they are charcoal and from what I understand last for decades, plus make good smokers if you're not going too big. Made in USA

I have gone through 2 gas grills in 7 years because I buy the cheap ones too. The burners would rust and eventually chip off to the point where the flames are uneven. The heat plates and cooking grate would rust to shit too.

Currently looking at charcoal grills with a smoker as I think they'll last longer and want to try smoking. I love the convenience of a gas grill for those rainy days or cold winters. Should I stick with a little more expensive gas grill (~ $300 - $450) or go to charcoal with the same price range?

I have a couple weber kettles that i break out every now and then. I do enjoy charcoal, but the convenience of gas is king. This is especially true for cookouts. My get togethers always have the grill going on and off all day.

    Are you handy?
Do what I did and buy a used weber! Best thing I have ever done. Works great and was only 80 bucks. I have a 2003 weber gensis gold I converted from natural gas to propane(found a parts one I got for free).
Use apps like offer up and let go to keep an eye out.

As for charcoal.. Again weber.. just get a standard kettle. I use bricks to separate the meat from the coals and it seems to work and be inexpensive.

Nope! Not really handy. Simple stuff I can do but I am very limited on tools. Bolt on stuff, yes but if it requires measuring and cutting - nope lol a lot of stuff I have to look up how to do.

Sounds like Weber is a legit brand to stick to. I'll keep an eye out.
