Mine has been fine since I test drove it with 7 miles on it. But my expectations were pretty low after watching all the complaints for 1.5 years.

Mine has been good. I got it with 3 miles on the odometer. The only time I notice anything weird with the transmission is when I floor it and there is sometimes a lag while it drops several gears to give me some power. With the ECT button pushed, this delay is almost completely taken away and the truck shifts much quicker.

Mine has driven great since off the lot. But yes, the ECT mod I bought from Meso on run #2 had made me appreciate the transmission even more, at least powerwise. I'm just hitting 16k miles too.

Tacoazul had 15k on her when I came along. We took some time to get to know each other and I can make this truck move now. I posted my secret in the tuning thread but I am sure very few noticed. I love this truck.

I left for Daytona with 2800 miles on her. 3400 miles later towing a 4000lb trailer to Daytona and back. I was in 4th gear most of the way and sometimes shifting to 3rd at 80 mph means 5000+ rpms lol. 10 mpg average. I think it learned a little shift pattern because now I am at 7400 miles, and It seems to hold gears a little longer? Hopefully mileage is what it really needs? Time will tell.

Perfect timing. This just happened today...
    IMG_0552.jpg

So tomorrow it's going to be even better, right? Seriously though, I've never had a problem with the way it shifts. I don't watch the tach and rarely notice when it shifts. I just mash the skinny pedal and go where I want to go. That's all I ask of it.

We are driving a motor that is brand new. Is changes between two "game plans" upon the drivers demands. Blaming the transmission is not really fair as I see it.

Yea probably, it happens, if and when you get that many miles on your truck you might be lost too.
I’m curious to see what the longevity on these transmissions are and further issues.

The transmission should shift right from the start, period. Having to drive it 10K miles is BS. The transmission sucks and Toyota needs to fix it.

Truck works properly since day one and transmission works just fine, as long as you pay attention when you buy it and are not a cry baby.

Have you actually driven a 3rd gen or are you just basing your opinion on what you read here about people that don't like how it drives?

I don't like eggplant and a few people I know don't like eggplant either but that doesn't mean it sucks or it needs to be fixed.

    I don't bash eggplant either.

Plenty of people like and buy eggplant so I guess it must be ok.

See what I did there? ;)
