    So, I have about 1,200 miles on my truck now and here's what I've learned (including my opinions):

    I suspect that most of the throttle/transmission settings many complain about are factory set to avoid rear wheel spin. Occasionally, when I punch the throttle hard and suddenly, I get rear wheel spin before the tranny almost immediately shifts. In "S" mode, especially in 1 and 2, I can practically lay rubber anytime I want to.

    I've found the "sweet spot" for my vehicle to be about 1,800 RPMs. In "drive," this equates to about 65 MPH. To maximize gas mileage (outside of flat road), I avoid cruise control and throttle by foot, incrementally. I try and keep it right at 1,800 and let the speed drift up or down. This reduces gas consumption. Combined with using traffic for air blocking, this gets me about 25 mpg on highway. True, I'm not doing 75 MPH, but when gas cost is more important than speed, I use this method.

    Finally, I found that smooth and slow to fast application of throttle is the best way to get my truck to perform. Instead of just "punching" the gas, I begin by pushing it in slower, then increasing pressure at a faster rate as the truck accelerates. When I do this, I usually catch the same gear all the way up until I lift, instead of the tranny suddenly up shifting and maxing the RPMs.

    This is just my experience, for what it's worth.

    I drive a six speed manual TRD double cab 4x4 so my driving habits are completely different. I prefer the manual. Avoids annoying automatic gear searching. I drove three automatics. Didn't like the gear hunting. I can just hold a gear when I need to with the manual. But that said; the autos get better mpg due to their lower rear final drive. But the manuals are faster in the 1/4 mile though I rarely push it. My best ever was 22.2. Recently mostly highway at 75 max I got almost 22 mpg. Never get the high mpgs posted on this site. Mostly 18 to 19 mixed driving. I use my 87 nova four cylinder in the warm weather anyway. Very high mpg there.

    There is only one reason why Canada switched over to the metric system. It wasn't because the rest of the world was using it, because Canada does about 75-80% (if not more at that time) of it's trade with the U.S. I know that the U.S. was looking at switching over as well, but Canada should have waited until the U.S. did, and then we could have switched over at the same time. But something very interesting started to happen almost immediately after the switch over to metric occurred. The price of gas started to rise due to increased taxation from the Provincial and the Federal level's of government. Gas appeared very cheap on signs at the stations when compared to U.S. prices. it was very visual. Every year another cent, or more, in tax was placed on every liter of gas (they called it a sin tax). So every year the minimum taxation on the equivalent of a U.S gallon of gas (3.78 liters) is approximately 7 1/2 cents. Ad that up over the following years, and you can see that roughly 50 cents a liter is taxation (higher in some greedy provinces) or at least $1.80...like l said...At least.
    That ads up to a lot of money over the years. Now ad in the new carbon taxes which are pretty much going into general coffers, and you see why the metric system was a great boon to Revenue Canada, and not so much for us as drivers.

    I can’t get over 16.8 mpg and that’s on the highway using cruise control. Stock 2017 OR. I cannot figure out how people manage 20s.

    I was given a 2017 4x4 v6 TRD sport manual as a loaner while my frame is being replaced and it has only 3k on the odometer. No lights are on but it seems to cough between 2000 and 3000 then takes off at around 3200. Nice quiet truck.

    Filled the tank and drove 100 miles non stop at 70-75 and it registered 17.6 mpg. Driving it to work at 55 mph and a lot of lights the tank is up to 18.6 MPG. Very odd, if I knew avg mpg would get over 20 I'd buy one.

    RCI Sliders and mostly stock.
    I have the 2018 DCSB OR and with mixed driving can get as high as 23.7 mpg for my daily commutes of 20 miles on the return but only around 19 going. I think it due to more elevation on the way in, but its pretty flat. I live on the gulf coast.

    Best tank average has been 21.2 mpg.

    When driving with cruise i only get around 18.7 mpg due to the constant gear shifting with any little bit of rise in the road!

    I am averaging 18.3 Miles/US Gallon, over the life of the vehicle, or 12.9 L/100 Km, over 73 fill-ups. Living in Southern Ontario, my mileage suffers markedly in the winter time. I am sure if I lived in a more moderate climate, I would be averaging over 20 MPG. Below is the average for the last 10 fill-ups.

    Mine is in the sig. I am expecting over 20 mpg combined during summer. Already starting to see over 20 mpg on some trips in town with warmer weather. I got my OR in mid Oct and this winter has been one of the longest.

    I did a hard break in with the engine in mine to see if that would improve power and fuel econ as a lot more people I know are doing this.

    Hi. I have a 2016 TRD double cab with V6 and six speed manual. Yes the engine comes on after about 3000 rpm. The manual has a much higher rear differential than the automatic so it gets slightly poorer gas mileage but it’s quicker off the line and 1/4 mile. I drive mixed highway and local including hills. My best mpg was 22.2 mostly all highway and not over 65 mph. I’m not a hot rodder; after all it’s a 4 WD truck. I’m good for 18.2 to 19.6 usually. Sometimes better but worse in winter with long idling, warm ups and using the 4 WD here in Connecticut. To save mileage and mpg I use my little 87 Chevy nova. Soon I plan to purchase maybe a Honda Fit to replace the old chevy and use it as my local driver. Keep the truck for winter and part time truck needs. I love my TRD especially because it came with a manual transmission. Dannyblues
