Well heck, we’re all always learning. In those conditions the PST is a good choice, it was one of my first choices when I was searching for a medium ($750-1000) priced thousand yard scopes . After doing a ton of homework I kept leaning towards the burris XTR, and for my use, I’m damn glad I did! That thing is a high-end beast!

I have a first gen 4x16 PST that was on my bolt rifle, it has since been moved to my DMR

 I just realized my scope is a HST, not PST, I would recommend the PST, the HST is great but I like the illuminated reticle option, I believe the PST also has slightly better glass (the HST glass is great IMO also though)

Your HST has the same glass as the first gen PSTs the second gen PSTs have much better glass

I am torn between the Leupold VX3i-LRP and the Vortex Viper PST on a new rifle.I have the HS-T on another but sometimes the light just isn’t what I want. I personally do not like BDC to be honest, but everyone has their opinion..

Good info, thanks, My cousin is looking at a gen 2 PST FFP for the 6.5 Creedmoor that I built for him, I think he's going to be happy with it, his other "nice" scope is a night force but he doesn't want to spend that much this time.

    Night Force is the chit!
The scope I replaced the PST with is a USO that I got an excellent deal on.

I’ve never seen or handled one but I’ve only heard good things, I couldn’t buy one because of cost though, my cousin was telling me that he could’ve bought 5 acres of land for what he has in his rifle, I just can’t understand that volume of spending on a single firearm.

Depends on the intended use. I’m an instructor so my gun is a like any other tool, you want something that is reliable every time you pick it up. Scopes are precision optical devices, some more so than others. We have seen cheap scopes fail when pushed hard, I’ve seen issues with expensive scopes as well. The difference is the quality high end optic will be fixed by the manufacturer, the cheap scope gets thrown away. The folks I work with and have trained haven’t got time for a cheap scope to shit the bed when it’s time to go to work.

I tend to encourage folks to look in the $500 and up range. I’ve been using the Vortex PST 4x16 for close to 10yrs and still tracks well, there is a major difference in optical quality with my USO though.

Soo, I was at the gun store today, and was checking out a Tikka TSR-1 G10 Very very nice! It was definitely a solid/heavy gun.

That built in level is a nice thought. Except you have to come out of scope and break head position to look down in order to see if your level...still looks like a nice gun though.

Agreed, and one area I thought it could use improvement on was in the trigger.

You could do it as long as you're not one of those people on here that are worried about going back to stock and their resale value...

Please do it, I want pics :boink:

    I have a Tikka CTR in .260 coming. Traded for a Leupold 1-6 :)
Will need a chassis and scope for it.
Thinking KRG Bravo chassis and Leopold Mark5 for a scope.
Quality scopes at distance do make a difference. I know they are hard to justify, I use dot be teh same way.

On a side note I'm selling a Nightforce 2.5-10x42 with Aadamount caps for $1500 if anyone is interested. $500 savings over new.
