Hey everyone, I recently picked up a second gen and all was good and well untill a few weeks ago and I am having some trouble finding the problem.

So the issue is a hard start, turns over for 3-5 seconds before starting up, sometimes fires right away but most of the time cranks for a bit. So far I have replaced the battery and cleaned the terminals, replaced spark plugs, cleaned MAF and throttle body and tested fuel pressure using this method https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-check-fuel-pressure-w-pics.445975/ (i didnt have the correct fitting to T into the fuel line so couldn't test when idiling)
When I tested the fuel line pressure it was at 48psi which I believe is high? Wondering what i should be looking into next, or weather I should try get the fuel line pressure when idiling?

When it starts does it run rough for a few seconds?

Does the truck always start good the 1st start of the day?

If you shut off the truck and go to start it an hour later, does it start hard?

If yes to both questions, then there is a good chance you have leaky injector(s).

Hello, I have the same issue with my 2006 DCSB TRD Sport 4x4. I’ve also replaced spark plugs, air filter, battery less than a year old. I found that if I immediately turn the key to the off position and back to the start position on it immediately turns on fast. Strange! I’ll be following this thread as I too look forward to the input from others whom are a lot smarter than I am.

Once its on its fine, just starting.

Ok thats kind of what I was leaning towards, do you know of a way to check this without pulling the valve cover off?

Some have had good luck pulling spark plugs and inserting some paper and seeing if there are drips of gas on the paper.

Search for endoscope on Amazon. You could pull the plugs and look right in...

With the endoscope would it be a simple as pulling the plugs after running the truck and see where the leak is coming from?

Just trying to gather a bit more info before getting into it, is it usual to completely replace the injectors, or is it the seals that usually go (causing the leak) and need replacing? If doing one or potentially more than one, would it be best to do them all while I'm there or only the ones that are failing?

    I don't see why it wouldn't be.
As for replacing one or all, i don't know.
