Dude, sit back Because this shit is hilarious.

My wife was Air Force at Scott AFB and in the late ‘90s she had to go pick up a new kid at the St. Louis airport. She gets there in uniform and in her POV and goes to the USO where he was told to wait. Calls out his name and this kid pops up and claims the name. She tells him to follow her and they go and get in her car and take off for Scott.

Chit chatting off and on during the drive back she asks him where his bags are, answers that he was told to bring the absolute bare minimum. Asks where his uniforms are, says he hasn’t been issued any yet. Wife is starting to stress as thy are now less than 15 miles from the base and demands to see his ID, again tells her he hasn’t got one of those either. She pulls over, rips open his Manila folder to find out he’s some rock heading to Ft. Leonard Wood for recruit training.

Flips the car first chance and brings him back to the airport and deposits him at the USO and has her guy paged, turns up in blues, demands his ID and bails east for the base.

Now here’s the part that kills me, there had to be some hell to pay for that kid to not only miss the bus to the wood, but to then to explain that to his instructors.

“But Drill, she told me to.”

Needless to say that she was never asked to be the new arrival sponsor ever again.

I knew I fucked up when I walked into my first barracks shower and saw no walls or doors.

I regularly tell people “if you have showered with other men, we can be friends”.

Maybe this is why I only have a few friends lol

Maybe the guy was just having a bad day ?
    .
...^^^... A lot of troops were medevaced via Scott AFB during the RVN war.

Many east coast Marines were medevaced from RVN to Yokosuka, Japan to Elmendorf AFB to Scott AFB to Andrews AFB to Bethesda Naval Hospital and never got out of their aircraft bunks on that long flight. That was their medevac ride home in a C-141.

When it comes to DD-214's from troops in the field in RVN ... there were many mistakes in the RVN records. I help guys with their disability claims with the VA and many times we have to get a DD-215 to start the process. One guy was wounded 3 times and they said he was not in RVN ... WTF ... were did he get his 3 PH's then ??

Another helicopter pilot was burned when he was shot down the second time in one day in RVN and they had him in a training accident at Ft. Rucker. ... There is some crazy stuff in the older military records. All that stuff back then was manually put in the records and many people made mistakes.

Field records and military records in general were not good back then. My DD-214 had a bunch of important omissions because people just forgot to manually put the stuff in there after certain schools and awards.

Starting in late 1970's records were starting to be widely computerized and record keeping was much better.

In the distant past ... the USAF was the best at recording keeping and the USMC was the worst .... lol.

I’ve just been corrected by ‘Household 6.’ She was in cutoff jean shorts and a white T-shirt. Which makes it even funnier. No clue on his name as he claimed the one she called out.

That was a huge mission for Scott and there is still a static display of one of those aircraft outside the west gate. The hospital is no where near as active as it used to be and you don’t see the big Red Cross tails coming and going anymore.
