stumbled across this thread...I live near Carolina Beach. Used to do a lot of surf fishing but it's been a while. As my kids get a little older I plan on getting back out there. Anyone go to Fort Fisher?

Fished there last fall for a couple days and a couple weekends ago I fished off of 4th ave. I've been wanting to go on the sound side of Fort Fisher on the kayak for flounder and drum.

    So I actually caught fish!
I bought two Hobie Compasses, took one in the intracoastal today and just tossed a Yozuri plug around under a bridge. Holy crap, there is no skunk in my new kayak! I was slamming the Spanish Mackeral, and one nice little Jack Crevalle. I was having a really good time until my braided "super line" got too twisted and knotty and I had to go back in.

Let out about 100feet of line and drag it behind the boat for a few minutes. Takes all the twist out.

I'll give that a try, but I think what I am getting is wind knots. I am using light weight power pro braid. I might switch to something a little stiffer like maybe spider wire. I am using a swivel. Line tied to swivel tied to fluorocarbon leader.

The one law I actually like in NY, saltwater license is free!

That's no different then saying "it's legal till you get caught" :anonymous::rofl:

I always buy licences and it does go to GW salary/conservation so I don't mind paying the $35 to fish fresh or saltwater in NC.

Yeah you still have to get a licence but its just a number and it don't cost anything. The annual in NC is $20 for salt and $15 for fresh. They have weird ways of dividing the fresh/salt lines here though. Like I can fish 100 miles inland on the Roanoke river with a saltwater licence but on the pamlico sound if you go 50 yards into a creek, you need a freshwater licence :annoyed:

That's right. Crazy thing is that some spots I'll be fishing in the kayak for flounder and trout then catch a bucket mouth! That's about the extent of the freshwater fishing I do these days.

I think NY it's right there at $100 for out of state freshwater.

Edit: It's $50 just looked it up.
