Wanted to start a thread for pics of what all have creatively done with their ARB awnings. Thought it would be awesome to see what ideas everyone has come up with for mounting, however I think it will prove useful for those planning to mount one of their own as well.

I'm currently saving for a Prinsu rack, planning to mount to the side that. Although I'm curious too see other options for insight into what I could do with one now. Toying with the idea of temporarily mounting to the top of my CBI bars just below the tent, however I feel like it would sit pretty low.

    Post yo stuff!

Something to this degree would be ideal... Fabricated to fit the bed rail, stores low and then has adjustable height when extended. I would mount flush to the risers instead of having it stick out like that tho.

Mounting to your current rack would be WAY too low. I would not advise it. Even at cab height, it's borderline for me, and I'm not that tall.

I'd install a roof rack or go with a free-standing awning.

The end result will definitely be attached to the cabrack. I may nab some perforated square tubing from home depot and some paint and have a telescoping setup in the mean time. Seemingly low profile, efficient, and inexpensive to do. I'll do a write up on it if I go this route. Haven't seen anyone with a setup like this.

Call me crazy, but does it matter if it's low from being at the height of your current CBI rack? Whenever I'm out glamping with a shade shelter type of thing I rarely stand in it, so the height doesn't really matter.

I have mine mounted on an ARB aluminum rack in a similar way on my 5th gen 4Runner, also using the four walled room. Enough room to stand up in and angled down for water runoff

What size awning are you looking at? If you are planning to temporarily mount it under the RTT, I think you would have to get the small awning (4' wide). Forget about a telescopic support system if you want a 6 footer because it would be dangerously low, sticking out a foot past your tailgate. In order to safely mount a 6' awning, you'd have to make some pretty beefy support mounts so you can hang it above the cab height. I don't know if it would be worth all of the time and the possibility of having to drill holes in your bed, just to make a temporary mount sturdy enough to support the awning. Personally, I'd wait until you get your prinsu cab rack!

As for different mounting options, I have mine mounted on my Front Runner cap rack. Since the rails are usable as mounting points, I was able to make mine portable. When I am on the road, it is on the side of the rack, but I can move it to the rear of the rack when I am camping.

There are a lot of pictures showing how I have it mounted to the rack in this awning thread (post #3).

In actual use, there were definitely some pros and cons. It was nice having the "living room" off my bedroom, but my truck never left the campsite because I didn't want to tear down the walls in order to roll up the awning.

My solution is to mount two tubular sleeves onto the backside of the awning. Now, if I want to drive away, I can insert rear posts (1/2" steel electrical conduit pipe) through the sleeves, secure them to the sleeves with linchpins, and then add guy lines to anchor the posts in place.
Although my driveway test was successful, it was a PITA returning to the exact spot so the awning could be reattached to the rack. I need to do some more testing, but next time it will be in the dirt.

With my first prototype, electrical conduit clamps were used to hold the tubing to the awning. I decided to replace this design with heavy duty brackets so they would not be the point of failure, in the event of a severe wind storm.

Thanks for your post! You drive a valid point I think ill hold off for now. I don't want a 4ft and there is no reasonably viable option to mount a 6ft that I can find.

Any idea what size ARB awning would work attached to Prinsu roof rack?!
I like the 8x8 but don’t know if the roof rack is long enough to hold that size with enough strength

I believe the 6 ft is as big as you can go without it hanging off of either end drastically, someone can chime in otherwise.

I ended up just going with a 55'' on the back since the overlander tent opens off to the side. Will eventually go with a bigger setup once the cabrack comes into play. I was able to fab 2 1/4 angle steel that just slotted into the existing tracks of the tent and bolted her down good n tight, surprisingly solid. Going to get some wing nuts for easy manipulation.

Cabrac? 1250 model will fit. The larger one will stick out quite a bit beyond the cab.

Recommend getting whatever size awning you want and going from there. I think You’ll find anything under 2m incapable of blocking sun and rain. I’ve seen a lot of cab mounted awnings that extend into the bed. Looks terrible, but they work.

My ARB awning has been one of the most used and needed items for camping so far!

Might be able to figure out some way to mount the lifting mount that patriot uses on their trailers.....if you can figure out what mount it is. I’ve looked around and haven’t found another like it. Might be proprietary to patriot.

Awesome set up, 6' ARB correct? Did you use the Prinsu awning mounts?
