I know it's another header thread but I've been doing lots of research and I've come to this conclusion:
Shorty headers are better for lower RPM torque in the V6 4.0
If I put short headers on my truck I will get better torque at lower range (I typically never go over 2500 RPM)
The more torque I get in the lower range means my engine is more efficient
Since my engine is more efficient, it will increase my fuel economy

This is how I understand installing short headers will work right now. Please correct me if I have this wrong but I am just trying to figure out what will work best for me.

My ultimate goal is to improve fuel economy as all I do is drive around (I don't do any heavy duty towing or go ape shit crazy in 4x4) I'll occasionally tow something light and the most I use 4x4 for is driving on the beach and through fields when it rains and they get slick with mud. Like I said above I typically stay under 2500 RPM (which I'm assuming anything under 3000 is considered low end) at 80 mph, I'm hovering in the 2500 range anyways and I don't need to go faster than that anyways

I have zero performance mods on my truck right now so if the headers are the right choice they will be my first

Thank you in advance for any input

Is it worth around a thousand dollars to you?
Your looking at header cost, and fabbing cost to cut and weld cats to shorties and have everything line up.

IF you get an mpg tweak, your ROI will be long after the rest of the truck is worn out. :D

If you really want to bump mpg, install a vacuum gauge and learn how to use / drive by it.

Would a vacuum gauge do the same as a scan gauge our ultra gauge will basically?

Not really. The OBDII based units are much more sophisticated and do dozens more things.

But for mpg all you have is instant and average. Instant is almost impossible to drive by.

A vacuum gauge is mechanical and easier for the eye to monitor.

If you do some reading you'll also find they are excellent diagnostic tools.

URD Spec-U headers. Improves hp and tq across the entire rpm range, versus stock.

Less throttle input necessary to reach desired speed, equals lower load (realized on the vacuum gauge as more vacuum) which equates to more gas saved, and more smiles per gallon.

Do the O2 sims work on a 2013, or is it one of the years that it doesn't?

I believe that is one of the years with issues. One member used the combination of the O2 simulator and J bung extenders or spark plug defoulers and had success.

Those cause emissions problems right? The county I live in tests emissions every year I'm not trying to run into any problems with that
