TacoSmitty - Just went through all this, no "P" LED, flickering "D" LED, no Cruise Cntrl, occasional delayed shifting, and code P0705 on my 05. Went through all the various DIY steps in this thread with no improvement.

JB#1 may have corrosion issues but they have nothing to do with the P0705 code. I know because I disconnected every connector (there are at least 8) in the driver's side kick and the PRNDL LEDs continued to function uninterrupted. Cleaned and sprayed DeOxit on them while there though.

Did the same with the Driver's Side J/B (cabin fuse panel) and all 6 connectors on it - no help. So did the Inst Pnl J/B #2 behind glove box, and still no improvement.

Last possibility was the connector at the PRNDL switch on the transmission so I used contact cleaner & DeOxit on it and, good news!, that completely cured all the problems in the list above - every one of them!

But be aware that the moisture seal for this connector is embedded in the bottom of the transmission mounted male connector. This means that getting the cable mounted female back on can be a pain as the last 1/10 inch compresses the rubber gasket in the male connector - so you have to apply considerable force to get the two halves LOCKED back together. More than just finger pressure, unless you have a lift and can get a better angle on it than I could laying on my back unable to extend my arms much. (I used small channel-lock pliers to gently squeeze the two halves together, but be careful as the plastic is old and could crack)

That was 3 weeks ago and everything is working perfectly since with no flickering PRNDL LEDs and no codes thrown, which is most important.

Hope this helps you with yours...

    I added a bolt once...
Several days and 400 miles later I cancled the alarm and no more "pending code"...just an update...

I got one too last night. As it happened I noticed that I was resting my hand on the shifter at a red light and it slipped from D to 4. I am thinking I was resting on it just enough for the truck to think it was in both D and 4 and threw the code. At least that's what I hope.

I was plagued with the occasional delayed shifting (was happening a couple times a day, at least).

I believe I solved the issue by replacing the neutral safety switch, located on the side of the tranny. I've had the new one installed for the past 2 days and the delayed shifting hasn't happened yet. Just so we're on the same page as I've been experiencing these issues, That is for a Tundra in the PDF so the parts aren't the same. And the PRNDL switch you're describing is actually the Neutral safety switch as shown here: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1186600&cc=1432865&jnid=514&jpid=0

Oops , my bad .Toyota terminology .....Park neutral position switch .
General motors call it the prindle switch .Park / Reverse /Neutral /Drive /Low
In the illustration ,the Tundra and Tacoma share the same transmission and identical Park neutral position switch .
The illustration is from an old post that I simply copy and pasted . At the time , thats all the information I could find for the switch .
There are some better sources now .

Just to give another update, since my Park neutral position switch was replaced, I have not experienced the problem.

Thanks. It might also be geographical because here in Canada even Toyota called it a neutral safety switch. But I'm glad that cleared it up, I was so confused when researching.

Update: I had the hard shifting issue, i got under there and the cable doesn't go to the NSS, it goes to the drivers side and attaches to a balljoint. I sprayed some penetrating oil on the cable and it works perfectly now.

That's what I did. I sprayed the cable linkage and the shafts seal where it goes into the transmission with some a Liquid Wrench penetrating oil and the tight shifting and intermittent PRND light issues are gone. Sprayed it good a few times and cycled the shifter back and forth a bunch of times with the ignition in the run position but engine not started. Works great now.

I had a stall issue when moving shifter into D or R . Had the P0705 code .Replaced sensor on tranny and stalling is gone . But now hesitates for a count of 5 before engaging in gear when moving from P to D .No check engine light on . Still trying to figure it out .Wiring harness and junction block like new .Had full flush done , problem still exists .

I have the hard shifting and P0705 code, and it sometimes stalls when I put it in park. Let you know how it goes after I try all fixes listed here.

Cleaned the contacts with deoxit, while I had everything apart dripped TriFlow into the cable ( slid back the rubber seal so the lube could get to the cable/ housing) repeatedly over the 20 minutes I was cleaning the contacts. Worked the cable back and forth, slowly kept adding Triflow and now the shifter moves like new. Still stalls in neutral though, but stopped stalling in park.

I know its been years since you posted but thought I would check anyway. I also have increased force needed to move the shift lever - and sometimes it wont go into Drive. Did you ever find out what is wrong with yours?!

Did you have a problem with it going into gear before this or just the "hard to put the shifter into gear"?
