My shift console is not illuminated. Is there a bulb somewhere located that is broken or is this originally not illuminated? I think at least the letters/numbers should be readable at night.

Letters and numbers should be backlit.

Unscrew your shit knob. And gently pull up at one of the corners of the shifter trim piece. I usually start at the side near the little rectangular storage slot. Work your way around and it will unclip (like 6 clips or so total)

You’ll then see the black “PRNDL” etc piece and it has 4 little clip spots, just unclip and then pull it off. Should reveal the bulb at that point.

I’ll find you the thread with pics of what I’m describing. Bulb is a #74

Fyi the bulb is stupid expensive from the dealer. Like $8 or something if IIRC.

You’re right that one is only 2 to 3 bucks. I was thinking of the heater control bulbs. It’s different for the 6 lug and there’s also a cover that goes over it but still the bulb is about 3 bucks and the cover another 3. The bulb is part# 33550D and the cover 33550E for the 6 lug.

Replaced mine with a red LED strip that I had kicking around. Works well.
