For mechanics out there, I just purchase a cat from Flowmaster but right we’re the gaskets go in has some metal bits from the welding they did, don’t know if that will make it leak since I don’t think it’s going to be completely flushed to the cat. Does it matter? Or it’s all good.

It will leak if those are large drops, either grid it smooth or return it

My Flowmaster cat only lasted a year before it fell apart inside. I don't recommend them to anyone.

I have a Magnaflow cat now and it looks like it was built with better quality steel. Can't say for sure how long it will last cause it's only a year old. I've had Catco cats last a long time too. I have a Bosal cat on my 84 and even that looks to be of better quality than my old Flowmaster did.

Will not leak. That's why toyota use compression, one time use gasket designed to seal the entire surface.

Magnaflow is decent unless you can fork the thousand for oe toyota cat.

So just curious, but what makes an OEM cat fail?
Why are some OEM failing at 200k and others like mine still running great at 565,000

There's tons and tons of factor that can and will cause the cat to fail.

    To list a few:
    -leaking injector/unburn fuel
    -poor gas quality
    -owner neglect normal engine maintenance
    -damaging cat from offroad
    -etc

That like asking someone, why your truck still have the original engine and I already swap mine out and it have less milage then yours and my truck is newer as well. It all come down to the owner at the end of the day. Some do preventative maintenance while other wait until sometime break down before fixing.

The 95-00 tacomas have a single cat and the 01-04 have dual if I'm not mistaken. Could make difference

Replaced it with a Walker front cat and a Evan Fisher rear. So far so good.

Because the stock exhaust uses a "crush" style gasket or "doughnut" in between connection points you should not have any exhaust leaks when properly installed.
