I am working on a road improvement project to reduce sediment input into an important fish bearing stream. I was told the road was in "terrible" shape and to be cautious driving it. I get out there and this is pretty much as bad as it gets . I was expecting a pretty gnarly drive...

yeah. I think its funny how bad people think some roads are. Even the way the Rangers rate roads in The Maze is funny.

Just dropped BabyT at her new home. Rides so nice compared to that big ol' dodge.

Moving Day! 4 hours of work and then a whole weekend of house work. Going to move everything today. Dig and set the fence posts tomorrow, get the rails on Sunday, and then because of a small mixup with the lumber store, picketts will be installed Tuesday and Wednesday night (depending on how long it takes.

Pictures to come. Beyond excited because this means I can finally budget in BabyTs engine  let's hope I have my truck back before the wedding.

Here's some pics before we cram all our crap in. Not pictured is the spare bedroom bathroom, or laundry closet. Not a bad little place to call home.

Looks good Gage, do you have enough stuff to fill it? If not, don't worry stuff will find you! Do you have a lawn mower? Geese, chickens or goats would work too.

Is the pellet stove the only source of heat?

Too bad you're so far from me, I'd come help with the move. Can't lift much but can offer word of encouragement, advice on how to save you back, make sure everybody is working safe and staying hydrated. Also could make beer $ pizza runs!

Time to start that nuclear family and go further into debt with a 50k+ truck and van.. This is one of my small dreams. I always wanted to have a home to work on. Can't wait for beers and yard work on the weekends.

Lol, we have too much stuff. We are coming from a rental about twice the size so we need to downsize some things. Moving went pretty well. It was just lizzy and I but we got the majority of the items. We need to get some larger pieces today and drill some holes for the fence post.

The work doesn't stop. We are a bit behind on our schedule but we should have a fence by the end of next week.

Thanks! The American dream is slowly coming together and also getting some push back. It wouldn't be my house if it didn't come with its own set of problems . We got all the posts set today and started getting the rails up. Just before sunset a guy pulls into our neighbors drive way and marches up to us saying we are building on his brothers property. Now, I work with this guys son and had asked prior to building if it would be a problem. He talked to his dad and the conclusion was that it wouldnt be a big deal, just try to get it close to your property line. Being me, I needed something more than that. So I called a surveyor and got hit with a $1500-$2000 estimate with a 5 week wait to mark the boundaries. That's a bit steep and too long so I got the old plat maps with distances and measured everything out. We are spot on with all my measurements and this lines up with the houses behind us as well. Our fence is actually just inside the line we believe to be the property line.

He's coming back tomorrow while I am at work to try and find the corner pins with a metal detector. I feel bad that lizzy has to entertain this guy without me.

Let's hope I did my homework correct. I'm more than willing to move the fence in if needed but it won't be without a fight. It's not often I am wrong about things like this .

I think it will be fine. There is an alley behind us with another row of houses. He was going off a visible piece of rebar there (which is also where two fences connect) and saying that had to be our property. Well that marks a 50ft lot, and we have 10ft off that per the deed...which actually puts his concrete slab on our property by a foot or so. So hopefully we can explain that to him and he just leaves us alone.

I think the best part of the conversation was when I asked him to show me where he believes his property line is on the other side of their house. Then I double check with him that his property is 50ft. I pull out the tape and walk it to my line and bam, right on 50ft. He changed his tune a bit but still wanted to argue.

Just trying to be a good neighbor man.

haha man people a testy about that shit.

I was spraying once up the south fork in the middle of no where and we approached 3-5 houses near each other. On my side there is a house with a tractor sprinkler and its tipped over so its just spraying the crap out of the house. Being a good samaritan, I jump off my 4 wheeler and dash over to the sprinkler and set it back up so its doing its job correctly. Partner gives me the thumbs up and we continue on our way spraying. The next house over a guy is waiting on the side of the road for me and starts belittling me for going on his sons property. I told him I just fixed his sprinkler so it wasn't drenching the house and would be glad to go back and setup right back where it was. Did the same thing. Just changed the argument to how our job was stupid and kept arguing.

I'm like dude if you are such a good dad for watching a random dude run on to your sons front lawn..why didn't you fix the fuckin sprinkler? haha

Hopefully the guy feels like an ass and comes to his senses and realizes he was just wrong.

This is some tedious work! On the last stretch. Unfortunately it's suppose to rain all weekend so we will see if we can get the rest of the pickets up.

Good luck with the neighbors. Sounds like you did your homework on the records. Did it show ties to section corners for point of beginning? If the surveyor is asking that much you might have some shotty ties and hard to find pins which makes their job twice as hard. A small lot like yours would be in the neighborhood of 500-800 if I was to do it for our company.

I'm not sure what you mean by ties. The maps we have just show a rectangle with the width and length. The old maps showed the width of the road so I estimated the start near the sidewalk. I talked to a friend here and he said they had to dig about 3-4ft to find the pins and it was really difficult. I feel good about the fence line. The guy never came back so I am thinking he did his homework and saw the likelihood of his concrete pad being on our property. Hopefully things go smooth from here on out. I thought the estimate was really high but there is only two guys doing it out here for a huge area.

Got most of it done today. We have a small 10ft gap inbetween the garage and house we haven't started but this is good enough that we don't need to leash the dogs every time they go out.
