Need some advice on some new tires I recently bought. I have some 265/70/17 Toyo Open Country AT2s and just took a trip to San Diego. I read reviews that the road noise for these tires are excellent but I noticed almost a high pitched hum especially at higher speeds on the freeway. This is my first truck so just wondering if this is typical with AT tires and bigger tread.

Sounds like the rear diff howl to me. Is it through out the speed range or between 50-66mph . Try changing road surfaces and see if it changes at all or try getting it to 55mph and feather your accelerator listening for the pitch to change.

Thanks for the reply. The noise does change and sometimes goes away on different paved roads. I hear little to no noise on side streets. It’s just on the freeway and noticed it when I’d be going between 65-75. BTW, my PSI is set at 36.

PSI seems high but I have the Goodyear Wranglers @30. My rear diff was the same as far as the noise. 50+ 65 and she would start singing. It's a common issue.
This may not be your issue though. Next time really try and see if you can isolate the noise and if it reacts to throttle input changes at it's loudest. https://youtu.be/wkwtqkjpMuk similar to this.

If it wasn’t whining with the stock tires and the whining started right after installing new tires, my vote would be that it’s the new tires that are causing it.

In the video above, it doesn’t sound like a steady whine to me. The pitch seems to vary over possible slight variations in the road surface at about the same speed throughout the video.

I don’t have the rear dif howl on my truck.

I noticed a whine just one time with my Tacoma with aftermarket Falkens at about 62 mph over an approximate one mile stretch of freeway. When the road surface changed to different pavement, the whining at the same speed disappeared.
It reminded me of the whining or howling sound when passing big rigs with their many tires rolling on a freeway surface.
