Frame rust recall

When my frame comes in I will tell the dealer I’m thinking about trading in on new Tacoma and that’s what I want as a loaner !

 

I just got the call from my dealer, it “probably “ will need a new frame but they have to send pictures to toyota and get approved so I won’t know for sure until tomorrow.

EDIT: definitely getting a new frame, so it’s 6 to 8 weeks of waiting for me. At least I get to drive around in a turd gen for the time .

 

Just found out from Wheelers Off-road that Energy Suspension does not make body mount bushings for my truck

 

Check their website and they do make them

 

Ok Energy themselves e mailed me back . They do make them for 2 nd gen 8.4109 is part number .

So my truck is actually apart at this point and they ran into an unusual issue. The tech was starting the reassembly process and found that there was an issue with frame. Gas tank would not line up/ bolt up. I have a friend at the dealer who gave me a call. He said this tech is one of two who do all of the frames and tech has done so many so he knew something was up. They have a Toyota corporate tech/engineer coming down now to see what is going on. Has anyone ever heard of this? Part numbers were crossed check to confirm. Just a major fitment issue.

 

Screw up at the factory when they built yours, is my first thought. If that is the case you may be getting a few extra parts installed on yours. I’m sure there is nothing to worry about, they’ll make it right.

 

I’m not too worried. Just don’t want it hacked to make work. What extra parts could they possibly add?

 

Got a call from the dealership. They started on the frame on my Taco One of the struts sripped coming off. Ummm they just put that on 6 months ago. WARRANTY! Plus I should get a refund for the LCA I had done at the same time

 

So LCAs are included with the frame swap ?

 

I would undercoat with rubberized one on new frame at the same time frame is replaced. I saw new replacing frame at the back of dealer, and say made in Mexico.

yes.... don't go by the parts list that the dealer supplies.They never changed the coolant on my truck.They left the drivetrain in place.

 

If they can’t get the old ones off you get new ones. I don’t understand how they would not be able to get them off. What do they do if one needs replacing? Up sell you a frame?

 

So I guess they’ve started on my truck finally. Got a call today from them stating that installing OME 887 and billi 5100’s that are already compressed along with an add a leaf and upper control arms was 9 hours worth of labor. . Tech told me he had take apart the struts and put the 5100’s on the highest setting. I explained that they needed to be on the lowest setting with the OME coils. Then got told it wasn’t going to lift the front if they weren’t set higher. Told them I’d pay for the leaf kit install but that the front struts and coils are fine as they are. 30 minutes of labor to do the add leaf. God help me. Lol

So far my list of what I’m bringing to dealer when my frame swap is being done : Wheelers Superbumps front and rear , Energy Suspension Body mount bushings (red) , Gear Tech Customs front splash guards . Replace all hoses on engine , possible rack and pinion( have a small leak ) . Not sure if I should keep my 2” AAL or go 3 leaf progressive? I’m open for other suggestions!

 

Unsure if this qualifies mine or not. First hand wash after winter so I hosed the underside trying to blast off any thing willing to come off. I am getting ready to clean scrape off the crc they had put on and the lps3 I’ve been using. The usual spots look pretty good. Found this on the front cross member driver side. That’s the tie down on the left
Don’t think I gotta spend much more time on the floor cleaning my frame now?

 

Dropped in on the dealership today. Feel a lot better after talking with the tech. Stated the only labor would be for the add a leaf. Said he didn’t realize the coils were OME which I can see since the box wasn’t with them. Other than that everything looks pretty good. Should have it back tomorrow.

 

I think that would be a kick ass job since most of the rusty stuff gets scraped.
I got mine back today. All they charged me for was the extra parts the labor was "goodwill labor" Looked and felt good except the brakes are really soft Panic stops may be a problem, may have to take it back and have them take a ride. But they may be typical Tacoma brakes I just got used to the 4Runner (really good brakes).
