Stop being a cheap ass, put the recommended synthetic oil in it and enjoy your 10k intervals.

Working for a large auto group for 13 years I have seen a few times where the manufacturer has asked the customer for oil receipts in order for them to warranty a blown motor. One was a ecoboost that had 45k on it that sludged up because the customer never changed his oil, not one time. Another was my buddies Dodge Dart, who happened to be a tech and always did his own maintance. Those early motors had a few big issues. They wanted documentation anyways. Heard stories of a few other customers that need to supply records in order to get approval to get blown motors warranty approval. It’s not uncommon. Last thing your gonna want to do is hand over some receipts for the wrong oil type if you have a blown motor and Toyota tell you to pound salt and now you have a 16k repair bill.... it does happen

I think what he's trying to say is that he's more inclined to rely on the recommendation of the company who designed, built, and tested the engine than some folks on the internet. Unless those making alternative suggestions have the ability (and money) to stress test multiple engines over and over while making design changes to correct failures, its hard to take their word over the manufacturer. Nothing to do with complying with authority.

When it all comes down to it, its your vehicle, no longer Toyotas responsibility so you should do what you feel is necessary to make "improvements".

Max PSI on stock TRD Off Road tire is 51PSI but NO WAY IN HELL anyone should be out there running 46PSI on those tires... That's insane. The PROVEN way to go is still by doing the chalk test. Generally on these tires that will put you somewhere between 30-36PSI...

If you watch Amazon at times you can get a gallon jug of mobil one for around 21 bucks. Free shipping with prime. That won't bankrupt you will it?

You don't improve anything running larger tires or different suspension. You make it more suitable for off road and less suitable for on road. That's not even equal, since you soend the vast majority on the road. No improvement overall. Do you know more than the guys who designed this truck? I don't so I go with their recommendations. You are right. It's your truck. Do what you want but don't use dreams and unicorn dust to justify your mods and expect some of us to agree.

So you really think you're improving the design parameters using heavier oil? You're not even comparing apples and oranges, more like apples and blue whales.

Amazing how many people would beat you to death for using a different oil than on the sticker (since the Toyota engineers know better) but have no problem spending $750 for OVTunes since Toyota engineers did NOT know better...

No tune. Factory oil and filter. I do this shit for a living. I know what we go through when writing machine specs to get optimal performance out of the machine. Then some yahoo operator thinks he knows better.
Truthfully, there is nothing wrong with using a different, approved viscosity, but why? It's not cheaper, it is not as good over a temperature range, it does not protect or lubricate your engine better. So WTF? Just to be different?
If you live in a third world country (which is why Toyota has different specs) then getting 0W-20 is tough so they have different specs. Here we have no problems. For all the experts out there, look at all the Blackstone samples on the forum that show great oil using a 10K interval. I have personally seen a 4.0 with 160K on the block with the top half removed and it was clean as a whistle with zero deposits.
What advantage can you give me for going different? I would honestly like to hear a valid reason. I would change in a heartbeat if there is one out there.

I have used Ravenol 0W16 for 10k mile OCI's and 60k miles total.

This oil has TWICE the dosage of the "trimer" form of molybdenum, that which is contained in Mobil 1 products.

Trimer moly is much, much more potent than molybdenum disulphide, the common form.

This Ravenol 0W16 motor oil actually offers superior protection to typical 0W20's.

You could always try LL-14 FE + OW20 motor oil. BMW Genuine. Castrol Professional. Motul. Three examples.

You still want to end this thread NOW ?

There you go. I do know why people argue about this shit though. Top three reasons:
    1. Their Grandpa told them about oil
    2. They fell for Marketing hype.
    3. A friend's brother who is a tech told them.

That's why people with zero knowledge in fluid applications know more than the Toyota engineers. smh

Me too. These and CAI threads. Two threads where a knowledgeable post is very seldom seen and "experts" come out of the woodwork...

0w20 is super thin oil. Bearing clearances are getting tighter and tighter in motors these days they even have 0w16 oil now you don’t wanna go thicker or switch to convential won’t do any damage in the short term but long term use will definitely cause issues. 10k for an oil change I think is way too long 7500 is the longest I’d run on synthetic even if Toyota recommends it at 10k

I hate draining the 0w20 oil. It always hits the pan and spashes out all over the floor!

I’ve run 5 quarts of mobil1, penzoil, or castrol 0w20 plus 1 quart of Lucas synthetic oil stabilizer every 5000 miles with a Toyota filter. I buy those in a case, ten pack from the dealer.

I’m on dirt almost every day, grading.

The stock engine air filter and box are really good. I have never found dust/fine particles, stuff passing a #200 sieve, fine silts and clays in the intake tube. Just checked 54,000 miles. Nice and clean.

Sams club had a sale on Mobil 1 , 6 quarts for 22 bucks. I bought the 5 case limit.
