I have a lot to say about those "road blocks" but like mama said, if you have nothing nice to say....

I agree though, when I have children they won't be taking the same road my wife and I did through the education system. Hopefully the schools listen to teachers like you and get with it so they can attend the same schools my wife and I did growing up!

I am all about making a change to help students excel. They deserve it. We are the "hired professionals", let's get our professional on and cut the shit.

@Bridge4 I would love to try a trimester approach. I see lots of positive to the idea. I am sure there are negatives too, but.....I do think it would work in many situations.

I actually went to nmh for about 6 months and they did that. We had long classes that I don't think would work in a public school. But I learned so much in half a year there I only had one class to take when I finished the year up at Mt Greylock. I think I would have liked it had I had the time to adjust to it.

I'm starting to work on my grad school applications to be a middle school teacher and the whole ship is leaving thing concerns me. I feel the same way and even the students talk about school being outdated.

I have to think that keeping up with the ship is more than logistics. Are public schools doomed? do you think they change enough to keep up?

Nice. Good to hear that you are doing that James. I think you be would a great MS teacher (any level teacher for that matter).
Imo, I think public schools are trying to be phased out. I think that because of the way there has been little change to the actual structure of the public education model, it has left most public schools vulnerable and open to severe scrutiny from the people that make policy and mandates. I have been seeing for years that politicians would rather do away with the PS model without attempting to change the structure. I will admit, that is easier than rebuilding it most of the time.
It seems so messed up when the common focus gets blurred because groups lose sight of that goal, being the students.
This year of teaching has taught me a lot about the system.

Just to chime in on that, I agree with what seems to be happening to the public school model but what we need to remember is that phasing the public school model out may be more difficult than it seems from a political and practical stand point. The model itself is antiquated, many teachers still teach the way they did 200 years ago, but techniques in the classroom are changing but they are slow to get there. Things will catch up because society will dictate that, but pushing through all the unionized BS in teachers contracts will be the speed bump from my experience. I think once public schools realize that they will lose their funding to charters and privates they will be much quicker to change their ways in methodology. Things will change but it will take time.

will we have any schools left tho. And I'm not being dramatic, look at adams/cheshire. They have closed all but two schools and one is physically going to fall apart in a few years. Stamford vt is going to have to close down and are trying to team with clarksburg. Lanesboro elementary is arguing with every other town over money and it looks like some are going to tell it to pound sand.....shit is an absolute mess right now in this county, and I don't see anyone with a brain in leadership stepping up to change anything.

p.s. another awesome ski day at Berkshire East. Beautiful weather and a nice layer of snow with no ice.

What is it that you guys are thinking needs to change? Is it the subject matter? Administration process?

Maybe I need to read up on charter and private schools. Are they run that much differently compared to public schools?

What is the boat that’s leaving?

Public school is rooted in tradition and people, meaning unions and even many veteran teachers that don't like change. I wouldn't say kids or teachers are missing the boat unless they are bad teachers or students in classrooms of bad teachers.
What's not happening is that public school lags behind in innovative teaching techniques and technologies. In charter schools and private schools that's their push and their draw. Kids in this current educational climate just learn differently for better or worse that we did 20-30 years ago. Case in point technology and the computer vs. library and traditional research...its a matter of efficiency if you know what your looking for and how you search for it. That's just a very generic generalization, but apply that kind of thinking across all the ways kids learn and the public school model just seems so far behind in terms of innovation in teaching.
I consider myself a mix of many different things when it comes to my instruction, my goal is to hit as many different learning styles as I can possibly get so I take into consideration all those different approaches. Visual, auditory, tactile, techno driven, special needs, etc...also keeping in mind the actual attention span of a teenager. I don't do any instruction in my room that lasts more than 10 minutes at a time. Anything more than that and you've lost half the class. Just a shift in focus and approach is all it takes.
    Yada, yada....

    Yes.
Will add to that innovative approaches to the schedule design and school day structure. Right there is a big elephant on the table with many unions (mine included). So why doesn't everyone just jump ship and go to a charter or private school, you may ask. I don't feel that educators have the protections there as well as in public schools. For instance, in my district, there have been so many moves by admin to get "rid" of educators that the union is working overtime to fight for them. Should some be gotten "rid" of? Yes, but many are not. Quite a few were set up by kids that didn't like them and they push to get them fired. Yeah! Seriously. I know it sounds unreal and often times when I hear this I feel like I am in the twilight zone. The kids know that they have the power and they are using it, instead of taking responsibility. It is scary. I can give you more detail in a PM if you want.
We are losing great teachers as a result of this mess. And I am starting to notice that we are losing great veteran teachers because they don't want to deal with the mess.
    Sorry for the gloomy post......

I have a... potentially... stupid question. I want more light behind the truck when backing up. I'm looking at these- I'd probably attach them to the tow hitch bar.
    https://smile.amazon.com/Nilight-Dr...pot+Work+Light+Off+Road+Light+Fog+Driving+Bar

Can I simply tap each one into the reverse lamp on each side? or do I need to run power from the front with a relay and inline fuse?

I added these to my pop-up and ran the wire up and changed from a 4 to a 5 pin harness. These are bright as hell and slim so they hide well.
I don't know much about electrical, but there are vids online that detail doing it the "hard" way that I'm sure I can follow.

    I appreciate any answers.

    yep..
I could use something like this. I think it would be fine to tap into the reverse lights with an in line fuse on each positive.

Edit: fuses probably not needed since the reverse lights have their own
