Kicker/Subaru tweeters arrived yesterday. Planning on installing tomorrow or sometime over the weekend. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but the stock tweeters are really muddy IMO, so i'm curious to hear the difference.

Second gen? Anyone? Are these a possibility? I don't mind cutting and splicing.

Anyone get a crackling sound from the kicker tweeters? It seems only when audio quality is low, or when speaking on phone over Bluetooth - there will be occasional crackle.

I believe there is a tab on the speaker cover that grabs the apilar from the inside! U might break that off if you don' remove the apillar

I removed the A Pillar Covers when I swapped the tweeters out.

I was nervous to pull the pillars also since my truck had like 30 miles on it when I did it. Watch the video of the taco tunes guy and do what he does. Just go slow and don't force anything. Getting back in can feel like a puzzle, but it will go, just find the right angle.

Not sure why you'd lose mids when changing out same style speakers, unless the OEM ones were built more as mid-to-high range and not true tweeters. If you're looking for mids and lows, well, a tweeter is not going to do anything to detract from that end of the spectrum. Tweeters are high end frequency response, so we shouldn't be losing midrange with changing out tweeters. The problem with only changing out one pair of a 6 speaker system, we didn't design the system in our trucks, so we don't know the frequency response and how the speakers balance.

That being said, my tweeters are being delivered today, but I also am planning on replacing the remaining speakers in the near future (not necessarily the kickers).

I'm spitballing here too...so let this just be here...a true way to get the best response is to spec out all the speakers and replace em all so that each pair works with the rest of the system. Add an amp that has frequency equalization?
Mids and lows will respond in the door speakers (and a sub...which I am with you, not my style).

You can try, but people have broken tabs.

Does anyone know if the magnet is actually larger and if the cone is any better material? The speaker is in a plastic case and although it looks better because of this, I am not sure if the materials are any better. If anything, the surface area actually looks smaller.

I put one in each hand. They weigh more, but I agree, you can't see the magnet. I have a feeling it is bigger just because if the weight. But I couldn't say for sure.

I think I spent a total of 45 minutes but that includes walking down to the garage to get and put away my tools and wipe the dash and windshield down. I found the passenger side to be a little more difficult with the automatic headlight sensor in the tweeter cover.

I’m pretty sure the pillar cover needs to come off. Pop the bolt covers, remove the bolts and wiggle free. Comes off and goes on easily. Don’t risk it by pulling and prying the speaker cover without removing the pillar cover. I’m almost certain that the pillar cover sits on top of a tab of sorts on the side of the speaker cover.

I just did the install. It took me @30min taking my time with removing/reinstalling the pillars and tweeter covers. As others have said, pillar removal looks to be necessary as it is right next to a snap tab on the tweeter cover. It's easier to just remove the pillar cover. When reinstalling the cover, I will point out to make sure to tuck the Pillar covers UNDERNEATH the door weatherstripping.

Also too, the utility panel tools are really nice when doing this job and are inexpensive. $6 at amazon.

Definitely a big improvement, to me, in sound over the factory tweeters. Much crisper and clearer right off the bat. This is a no-brainer for $100.

great upgrade for the price...easy install and absolutely an improvement over stock.
yes, remove the A Pillar covers. 1 bolt on drivers side, two on the passenger (due to the oh shit handle).

Yup, OP....did this mod 6 months ago and have been loving the improvement.

I'm gonna do the door speakers soon....

    Sweet looking Mini !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I'd advise doing it.

No reason not to and you'll not break any speaker grill tabs.

I disconnected my battery, too....not sure if I needed to or not....but I didn't want to be messing around with the airbag cover (A-pillar cover) with it possibly under power.

Just did this upgrade over the weekend and was truly surprised what a difference it made. I was skeptical but the end result is well worth it.
