I've been really careful not to do this. I would also recc not hanging accessories from it.

Get that annoyingly low mirror out of your line of sight, and replace it with a gadget to block your view again.

I simply put a double layer of 3M trim adhesive on the mount leaving a small tab of the backer sticking out so I could grab it with pliers. I then slid the mount on to the dove tail receiver and pulled the backer out and pressed the adhesive to the windshield.

The adhesive is what holds the mirror up now and the stock mount is simply a location tab.

I've had no issues with breakage as the load is more evenly dispersed across a significantly larger surface area and I regularly adjust the mirror one handed as the instructions tell you not to do.

    Absolutely love my mount!

Not sure how GoDaddy did it...but our BirdDawg Industries page got royally screwed up. Not sure how, but almost no links worked.
Got it fixed last night...so ordering Mirror Risers and Tech Decks should be a snap once again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks again for all the orders, AND the great reviews!

I've purchased one to run a RAM mount for my phone.

    Tools
    1/32 Hex Key
    Torx 20
    3M Molding Adhesive Tape

Due to the concerns of cracking a windshield, I've made some initial modifications that I believe will reduce the risks.

I've added 3M Molding Tape to the back of the mount to mitigate stress points and metal vibrating against the windshield.

After installing the base, I added Blue Loctite to all screws, and tightened down the screws very very lightly. I noticed a small gap behind the base, and applied the molding tape.

    Final Thoughts

The riser installed easily, but the instructions were not accurate for a 2015 Generation, and the windshield cracking issues made me more cautious. I'll report back if anything changes.

    Suggestions

I'd like to see a polymer version of this mount to reduce the weight on the windshield and the vibration of metal on glass.

Whats different for the 2015? I just ordered and will be installing soon. I may steal your idea to prevent any windshield cracking.

Nothing different for 2015 vs 2005+. Instructions were a little off, but nothing common sense couldn't adjust for.

Use 3M Trim dual-side backing tape. 3M Molding Adhesive Tape

Also, I don't run the RAM Mount on the ball all the time, so far I've only used it for long trips.

I read through the threads and it seems the solution to reduce the likelihood of the cracked windshield is to use 3M adhesive, correct?

I had a mirror riser on my '09 and thought it was great. Now I have a new '18 and I'm encountering the same issues with placement of the rear view mirror. Wondering if anyone has tried this on a Gen. 3?
    Thanks,
    dd

Just put my order in for the mirror relocation with ram mount. It was bad before but after the seat riser mod its really in the way. Cant wait to have more sight while riding in the woods.

Trying to put my Riser on now, I popped the mirror off the ball but can't seem to get the mount off of the windshield any hints or tips?

Edit I went to their website and there was much better directions than the ones they sent. It went on perfect and I can't wait to use it driving daily thanks guys

Hey, I got mine delivered yesterday and tried to install it. In my 2018 Sport, I have a box that does the lane departure thing and something else next to the original bracket. I talked to Max from Bird Dawg this morning on the phone and he said that I'd probably have to do some trimming. Looked at it a little while ago and think that he's right.. Ill have to trim the passenger side flush so it sits flush with that black box. Ill give it a whirl tomorrow.
