    Doing the boot slide mod.

What’s the consensus of how much to slide down the inner boot collar? 3/4”

Did you save the end of the old boot? Typically that is clamped in the regular groove and the new boot rests against it.

@Subway4X4 what were the cap rails you used? I apparently didn't save the website in my favorites. I am going to copycat you and put some on the inside of my cap. Going to make a tracked bungee holder kinda like what's on my yak. Looking for some other ideas of what to hang from there.

I suggest grabbing the stainless steel hardware before install.
I installed with the supplied zinc hardware, now I'm too lazy to replace with SS. ;)

Good point I think there is zinc on the ones that are on my cap already and they look a little rusty. Also did you go curved and what length, I know you are a SB just trying to get a rough idea I may be able to go longer on mine is what I am thinking.

48” no curve. There's a slight curve along the length of the cap, but the straight rails easily matched the curve. There was a 50” option. That would’ve worked.

I will measure mine and see what they are. Also did they come in pairs or do you have to order ea. rail individually they aren't that clear on the website.

GearWrench is my go-to for mechanics hand tools nowadays. Chromoly steel, excellent fit and finish. Mid-price point.

I’m slowly replacing my chrome vanadium stuff that I’ve accumulated over many years. I still have the no-name set that I bought at the swap meet 35 years ago at the Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego. The 24 mm socket finally blew apart last week. Had to borrow my neighbor’s 24mm shallow. Which led to the purchase of this nice 1/2” drive metric shallow impact set.

Which complements this 1/2” drive metric deep set I purchased 2 years ago.
And this 3/8” drive metric/SAE shallow deep set acquired last year

I should be good to go for our family fleet of three Toyota’s.

Note the Torque Limiting Extensions are not GearWrench

I love all my gear wrench stuff. I think for the price they are one of the best bangs for the buck. I am kind of a tool snob and have everything from VIM to Snap-On. Some of the Gear Wrench stuff I have I also have it in a "higher end" brand and the gear wrench is my go to. You'll be very pleased with your purchases.

Don't trust the torque sticks. I have proven that they are not always accurate with air and electric impacts, too many variables. Always double check with a real torque wrench. They do work to a point but you can still over or under tighten with them.

Yeah. The torque sticks get me close. I always pick the lower torque value. Then go down one more stick. Then it gets torqued by one of these Precision Intruments split beam torque wrenches.

And yes, you may have finally met your match when it comes to tool snobbery.

I’m more of a collector than a hard core user. Lol.

I don't know about that until you get a digital torque wrench that has an angle indication on it and not an adapter then you've got something. Also a torque wrench that goes to 600+ ftlbs. All my torque wrenches were well over 300 bucks and have an accuracy of like .1 of a lb IIRC it may be a little more. Plus I send them off regularly to get checked and recalibrated if need be. But I was also a professional mechanic for over 15 yrs. so I have quite the collection. Just wait till you start modifying or making your own tools to get the job done. If you need some specialty tools for a Volvo, Mercedes, BMW, VW/Audi I am your man I want to unload this crap!

If your into collecting tools you should see the set of over 100 yr old planes, chisels, gouges, etc. I have inherited through the generations. They are some sweet tools much nicer than todays stuff unless you go custom. I also am a pretty big collector. It's fun a fun hobby and expensive though.
