I do this also during an oil change, between draining the oil and refilling, just to make sure all the old stuff is out of there.

 

Pro tip: this is useful during the winter months so that your oil isn't frozen while you're trying to change it

 

This... You most certainly can hear it. You can hear the idle moving around, and exhaust tone changes a bit too. Once it is up to operating temperature (about that 10 minute wait), it is settled down. Computers are amazing, but they only do exactly what they are programmed to do.

 

Someone wanted 0-60 times. 1.04 on 87. Pretty much stock, except a BPF front skid plate.

 

Because of the direct/port injection, the truck goes through a valve "cleaning cycle" periodically. I've been meaning to look in Techstream to see if there was a flag to indicate when it was in this mode. My truck did it on a cold startup the other day and I thought it was going to throw a rod or something... It stumbled coughed and choked with plumes of smoke coming out the exhaust. I let it idle for 5-10 minutes because I wasn't in a hurry to leave and it figured itself out.

As soon as the engine goes into the noisy cleaning cycle, you can see the injection mode change to "direct" in techstream. Otherwise it's in port mode at idle. - Well, hot idle anyway.

Edit: AFAIK (according to a Sweers interview), the cleaning mode is for the direct injectors and not specifically the intake valves. Blows carbon off if the DI's or something crafty like that.

It would suffice for tuning purposes. Don't expect too much from it.

I suggested the one below to a few people. It's refurbished by a "Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher", it's cheap, and reasonably well spec'd. I have stayed away from AMD processors due to my last experience with a computer that had one. If you want to keep looking Intel i5/i7 is generally ok. I wouldn't bother with the i3 unless I wanted an uber-cheap MS word and youtube machine.

Although it doesn't really matter for anyone using this to install the tune, it doesn't list the screen resolution. I suppose it couldn't be any worse than the one posted just before this. That screen was something you'd see in an early 1990's laptop! LOL

Either computer will work, but I'd also recommend going with an i5 over the AMD processor.

 

Upcoming updates info

I own that laptop... Two of them actually. They are not 4k screens I can guarantee that. They do however work very well for what they are, and they are tanks. Mine comes with me every day on service calls to some of the nastiest environments you can imagine. The lenovo business notebooks are definitely not the prettiest things in the world, but they are pretty well built and readily available used or off lease.

Holy hell. Trying to install this tune.
All drivers Installed and no antivirus software running. It will not generate a serial number it keeps saying USB dongle is not accessible. The dongle is successfully connected and recognized. Any ideas anybody?
