I recently bought a 2005 X-Runner ... one-owner, 10k miles (seriously), and almost bone stock as far as I can tell. The only modification that I can see is the billet grille... and I plan to return that to stock at some point.

This is the second Toyota pick-up I've owned. The first was a '76 Toyota SR5 long-bed that my dad purchased new. I learned to drive on it, it was my car through college, and I gave it to my brother-in-law when I graduated. I got it back from him in '92 and sold it off in '96 with about 180k miles on the old 20R engine.

Wow...that's really low miles for a vehicle coming up on 13 model years old.

If it were me, I would change the oil with some M1 High Mileage 5w-30....or whatever brand of oil you're loyal to. But the seal and gasket conditioners in the HM formulas might be a good idea for an engine that has clearly sat around unused for most of it's life. That's tough on them.

In fact...I would change ALL the fluids

    Congrats

Thanks for the advice -- I checked the service records and it looks like it was driven about the same amount per year. The dealer I bought it from (traded in at a Jaguar dealership) gave it a thorough going over, gave it an oil change and a brand-new set of tires (including the spare). I agree... a car that just sits in a garage and never gets driven at all can have issues just like a high-mileage car.

It's currently at my local Toyota dealership having a couple recall items addressed (floormats and seatbelt pre-tensioner)... they said they do some multi-point inspection as part of their normal service.

I'll probably do a brake-fluid flush myself, maybe the coolant... not sure if the gearbox or diff would need it though.

Yes, I would change them. Very easy job, especially on the manual gear box.

I've been loving ... my daily driver was a 2011 VW GTI (6-speed manual, 4-door)

Things that take some getting used to:
    • Reverse lock-out -- the GTI requires pushing down on the stick, the X-Runner is just a pressure detent ... still have the GTI, and I was struggling to get it into reverse last time I drove it :)
    • Fuel economy -- the GTI can easily get 25+ cross-town, 30-33 on the freeway ... the X-Runner not so much
    • Length and turning radius -- the GTI is significantly shorter and can turn far sharper ... the X-Runner requires planning ahead when trying to pull into a parking spot
    • Clutch -- the GTI clutch action is so, SO light ... the X-Runner is like a left-leg exercise routine
    • Acceleration -- the GTI feels effortless ... the X-Runner feels like its struggling, but it is deceptively fast
    • FWD vs RWD -- mainly apparent if you lose traction on acceleration ... lots more fun in the X-Runner :D

Can I get some clarity on what was the last production year for the X-runner?
