Silly question but...

This May be a silly question but I don’t think I’ve found a definate answer. I see people who put little secondary air filters that look like little k&n filters but what exactly is that? And do we have it on our 4 cylinders or is it just a v6 thing? I apologize now if this is a stupid and or silly question! Thank you!

The crappy foam filter inside the air injection pump will start to fall apart as it gets older. This can lead to damaging the pump which then throws CEL codes and is really expensive to have the dealer replace. The little k&n looking filters slip onto the intake of the pump to keep dirt out, and it's 1 screw to remove the top of the pump to remove the foam filter in the pump.

The 2TR-FE got the air injection system before the v6 motors.

 

So we don’t need to do this to our 4cyls?

 

We have the air injection system, so it's cheap insurance for piece of mind of one less thing to go wrong. My air injection system took a dump a few years ago, and it $1500 to have the dealer fix it.

 

Expensive fix! Ok, good, I won’t worry about it then.

 

I ordered the filter off Amazon for about $12 and will change out in a week or so. I have a 4 cyl

 

I did mine a while ago...kind of a fire and forget mod.

 

Easy mod. Keeps the secondary air pump from eating the foam filter when it hardens from age.

 

Did mine last night. Filter was still intact, but getting hard
