A guy I know owns two Vespa scooters. I was just chatting with him and he said the newer one's top speed is 70 MPH. The speed limit on the PA Turnpike is 65 in most places, but a few areas have been increased to 70. Honestly, if I had a scooter, the only time I'd take it on the Turnpike or any major thoroughfare with a speed limit above 55 is in the bed of my Tacoma.

    This had me wondering...

Obviously taking a Vespa on a major highway isn't the safest thing to do, but is it legal? The old Dodge Power Wagons can barely do 45 under ideal conditions (in stock form at least; I've seen a few with Cummins 12V swaps), but obviously those are driven on public roads since I see then at shows quite often. Also, in something that big and heavy you've got size on your side! A Vespa, any kind of scooter, or any vehicle with a name that ends in "cycle"? Not so much...

Does anybody on TW own a Vespa (or similar scooter)? If so, has anybody taken a scooter on a highway where the speed limit is 65 or above? Is it actually legal to drive a scooter on the highway?

In IL, any motor vehicle over 125cc is legal on the Interstates when plated/registered. Under that is illegal. So, a Honda Grom isn't legal, but any 150+ is.

"Any vehicle under 50cc and going <=30mph is considered a moped. Pedals are not required, so small scooters by Yamaha and Honda can qualify too. Moped is permitted on all roads, except interstate highways. It is ok to ride on shoulder, but not on the sidewalk." http://www.moped2.org/mstates.htm

Hard for me to believe the “best selling truck” for the past forty years will be discontinued.. that would be a big surprise

Will just give Ford a reason to increase the price once they start making them again, supply and demand.

Not being discontinued . They simply have a parts shortage. Once parts are available again the line will start again .
