They are supposed to use whatever the manual or print on your oil fill cap calls for.

Unless you see them pour it in your truck right out of the bottle, you'll never know. Well, maybe if you see the bulk barrels they pump from arrive. Assuming they pump yours from the right barrel.

But the truth is it doesn't much matter, as long as it's clean and a new API product. Most any modern dino is as good as syns of yore, and should not be a problem at 10k. Some OEs of high longevity cars were specing 7500 OCIs in the 90s, on dino.

But if one thinks they must know exactly what goes in their vehicle, they should put it in themselves. Or hand it to someone and watch them put it in.

That is 29% that fall out of the ideal driving category with just one factor. There is more than just one factor...

Sigh. How many people tow primarily? How many people use their tacoma as a taxi? How many people drive exclusively on dirt roads? =

He did 10k miles and they tell him to do 12k as a test

Here's a video about 20k mile intervals using mobil one.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-zDt9FGJi8

"On General Motors vehicles, most of which use a synthetic blend, surveys have shown that under normal driving the monitor will typically call for an oil change every 7,000 to 8,000 miles, but with mainly highway driving it can stretch to 10,000 miles."

Normal driving using blend will get you 7-8k. Full synthetic no doubt would get you to 10,000

    HERES A GREAT ONE

"The argument that most people drive under severe conditions is losing its footing, however. A number of automakers, including Ford and GM, have contacted Edmunds data editors to request that the maintenance section of Edmunds' site substitute the normal maintenance schedule for the severe schedule that had been displayed."

From Nov-May, you practically drive exclusively on dirt roads.

Oil tests are not the end all in recommendations. I quickly skimmed the Edmunds article. I may have missed it, but I didn't see if they talked about filter longevity. But I did see were it mentioned "jiffy lube scare 3000 mile oil change". Most of the quick lube places use the cheapest filter they can find, and while their oil may stand up, usually the filter isn't good for that long. Again, very common in the automotive aftermarket.

There is a reason why Toyota has a severe service interval. It isn't to scare people into unneeded maintenance. Edmunds has put out many controversial articles in the past. One I remember is stating that it's not needed to warm a vehicle up in extreme cold temperatures before placing a load on the powertrain. Honestly wouldn't trust Edmunds research.

Like it our not Pine State, you are not correct in this instance. I don't know why anyone on an enthusiast forum would be so thick headed against proper preventive maintenance.

I'm going to tap out of this conversation. I provide facts and proof and you dismiss them with a hand wave because it doesnt fit your narrative. You'll do well on the internet.

But it's almost 1 in 3 people... so quite a lot. Not rare by any means.

Yeah, but i originally specifically said some do it but not most, and 70% not doing it means most have a longer commute.

I agree that it's not a majority. But it also means a lot of people should be following the severe schedule according to Toyota.
