I'm getting ready to trade/sell my Tacoma. I really do love it but I've realized that I do not need a brand new truck and I have lots of things I would rather do with the money I spend on my loan every month. I've been looking at used 2nd gen Tundras because I want to go back to a larger bed truck. It seems like most are priced/selling above KBB (both dealer and private party) Is this normal? I'm looking at a 2011 SR5 DC 4x4 with the 4.6 and it has 22,000 miles. It seems to be clean and well maintained. Asking price is 25k. Does this sound about right?

I’d be talking more like $22k

Edit: reason being, they probably paid somewhere around 17-19k on trade in. So there’s some wiggle room. Don’t get me wrong,
It may sell at 25k to the right person, but it’s the end of the year... could swoop in and get a deal.

KBB lists sale range as 24500-27900
    Trade in range 20200-22900

I don't have any experience negotiating on used trucks (previous two bought new). It just seems as though the margins are a lot smaller.

Yes, which is why that option isn't on the table. I have good equity in the Tacoma that I can use to roll into whatever I buy (provides it is lower cost than my current truck), thus lowering my payments.

i'm in almost your exact same boat - new taco that just has too much $ locked up in it, and am thinking about downgrading to an older tundra. Did you end up getting the one you mentioned in your first post?

Good luck! That's a hard truck to find. I would love to have one of those as well.

I've found a couple beaters on offer up but the few mint condition trucks are on the other side of the country. Would need more time and money but God willing I'll buy one of these trucks.
