Doesn't the shackle just slide back and fourth?

I'm thinking that the tow hooks are just about small enough that you could make a tall fluid bed filled with Harbor Freight powder coat material and hot dip it like folks do with fishing jigs. Then bake it in a cheap toaster oven. Just google "powder paint fluid bed" to see what I am referring to.

I sanded it down a little, cleaned it, and then spray painted it with Rust-Oleum Protective Enamel Metallic Cobalt Blue Spray Paint from Home Depot. I don't recall how many quotes, maybe 2-3 light coats.

Doing mine now. Did you prime first? Colour isn't showing up over the black

I believe I just sanded it down and then painted it directly. You could also potentially use self-etching primer before painting. I did that for other parts.

    Like, so many.
I don’t even have a tow hook anymore, but I dig it when I see painted ones. I know the owner cares about details.

I think it bears noting that the hooks that come stock on our trucks are NOT recovery hooks. At best they are "tow hooks". Can you use them during a "recovery"? Sure, but they aren't recovery points.

Tie down hook: used to hold the vehicle in place during shipping. These would likely bend just towing a vehicle down the street.

Tow hook: Supplied from factory and used to tow a vehicle short distances on flat, even ground.

Recovery point: Used to pull a stuck vehicle up steep and/or uneven terrain. Can handle more than the weight of the vehicle and is typically mounted to both sides of the frame. This is the thing you hook a D-ring to to yank out your rig that's stuck in the mud or high centered on rocks.

Honestly, I don't even like those single point "recovery points" that bolt to the same location, replacing the factory tow hook. Either get a front hitch that mounts to both sides of the frame so you can use a hitch mounted D-ring, or get a bumper with integrated recovery points.

Has anyone on here color matched their recover hook metallic sky silver? Wondering how it would look.
