Hello. I am new to the Tacoma World and hope to get some advice about towing over Siskiyou Pass with a 6X12 U-Haul Trailer. I am driving from Central Cal to Portland, OR and considering trailering over Siskiyou Pass which is about 4200 ft elevation. I am driving a V6, factory tow package, SBDC. Good idea, bad idea, make a new will?
    Thanks
    Brian

I have towed the same trailer, but not through a pass. That being said, on flat land I hardly knew it was back there. So I can imagine that up a hill would work with a little work. I have read on here that it is doable, but you may have to take it easy and shift down to 3rd. Definitely stay in 4th at the most. If you don't have it already, get torque pro and a Bluetooth obdc2 adapter to monitor trans temp. Both are cheap to get. Like less than $30 for both

Welcome aboard:hattip:. Your truck should be able to handle that but you will know the trailer is back there. My camper weighs in at just over 2 tons and the truck does fine:thumbsup:. As stated above make sure you say in 4th gear. It keeps the tranny from gear hunting and heating up too much.

It shouldn’t be a problem but it’s all about how much it weighs loaded. 6x12 is a good sized trailer and you can load a lot of shit in there. But I’m thinking you probably won’t load more then 1000 or 2000 lbs in it so you should have no problem. And 4200 ft ain’t that high. As someone else said tow in 4 not D.

Let us know how it works out. I am planning to do the same drive. How much weight were you planning to load? I was planning to put 2 beds and bunch of random crap. Only difference is I have a 16 with a 3.5 not a 4 liter.
