We have both I think.... I am no expert on turtles. The one species is a nasty bastard. I would get my hand any where near it's mouth. They are small ones, maybe 1 to 5 pounds. I have only caught one soft shell. He was a monster at 10 to pounds. Big ass webbed feet made him a bitch to reel in on my trout rod.

Floating night crawler is just a a night crawler ( large worm threaded on a hook that doesnt out weigh it). Once threaded, take a hypodermic needle and fill the worm with air.

As a newb one important piece of info to know would be if a fish swallows a hook. (Hooked in the the gills) just cut the line and leave the hook in, rather than try to dig it out. It’s less likely to to die if you leave the hook in.

I have zero idea about anything your fishing for where you’re at, but a few folks mentioned redfish cannot be retained.

If you think buying shit for your truck is expensive, wait until you get really in to fishing! Ha!

Vermillion snapper (?) and little baby dodos. ^^

In SoCal the water has to be nice and warm to find dorado. As soon as I retire (again), I'll be moving to Fl. I'll have to relearn fishing techniques for new fish, I guess.

Been fishing a bit more the past couple years here in the West Coast! Mainly surf, jetty, bay and boat for me. Occasionally lake and streams for trout if I go to the mountains.

I occasionally put on a wet suit, swim a few hundred feet off shore in 4-6’ surf, stand on a rock and fish from 9pm to 7am. Always go with a buddy. Bring lots of coffee.

Getting swamped keeps you pretty awake though.
