Wouldn't simply locking the tailgate work as well?

So when you close the tailgate, the clamp is removable from under the truck......hmmmm, seems like the opposite is more effective. Position it where it points like you have it when the tailgate is closed where no access to it from below when shut. Guess it doesn't matter much unless you have shell or tonneau and/or locking latch.

Mine is overkill.....clamp with gatekeeper over it, locking latch, washers & tonneau cover.....in the garage. No one is gonna run off with it.

Had a cap on my truck since buying it back in 2011. Always kept my rear door/hatch locked so my truck tailgate couldn't be opened.
Sold the cap this week and have a Tonneau Cover on order. Found these SS clamps in the clearance bin at my local Advanced Auto for a whopping 79 cents.

Received my Sabellco tailgate lock today & installed. A couple notes:

    1. It didn't come with instructions. Luckily, there is YouTube and it is a fairly straightforward process anyway.
    2. The two pieces are held together using an anti-tamper torx screw. These is great idea as the common thief won't be carrying the proper screwdriver to unscrew one of these. On the downside, the product didn't come with the required anti-tamper torx bit - very disappointing given the price tag. I was able to easily screw it in with a small "precision" flathead.
    3. It's solid as a rock - definitely heavy duty. With this and the washer mod, I have piece of mind that my tailgate will stay where it belongs.
Is it worth the $45 I paid given the much less expensive "clamp method" ? I won't know until someone tries to steal it. :fingerscrossed:

I had put a good quality stainless hose clamp on mine, and bought a Sabellco, too. Then I decided to see how easy it would be to break off the hose clamp because I’m lazy and didn’t want to get under the tailgate to unscrew it. Well, I snapped it off in less than 10 seconds using a regular Phillips screwdriver.

I ordered the bright red Sbellco, hoping thieves would see it before thy cut the video camera cable, too. It’s a great lock and I hope it never has to work against someone, they might get mad at my truck!

Well, I did it after another member lost his tailgate with a hoseclamp on it!

After what happened to my 1st gen, I won’t put a locking gas cap on my 3rd gen. Thieves tried drilling open the locking gas cap, gave up and then drilled a hole in my steel tank. Luckily, I was able to repair it. Our 3rd gens have unrepairable plastic gas tanks. A
locking gas cap is good for keeping vandals from putting junk in your tank, but those gas tanks are expensive to replace, too!

Seems like Sabellco lock is cheap insurance. Just contemplating pulling the trigger on one.
