Yep, I want 3-5 more cans for what I own now.

I went shooting yesterday and ran some more rounds through the multiple hosts that I have, 6.8 SPC is pretty gassy compared to 556, 9mm supersonic makes my ears ring, and .308 through a bolt gun is refreshingly quiet.

Have you shot 5.56 supersonic through a short barrel? It is uncomfortably high pitched with a weird resonance through my YHM can. My 25x6.8 is pretty gassy but I think that’s mainly because I’ve been lazy and haven’t adjusted the gas block. My 12.5” 277WLV is not a problem at all and my 24” 6.5-284 is a soft recoiling quiet shooter for all day fun.

Yes, all of the 556 I have shot so far has been through my 12.5” upper (I have a 16” but other than function testing I haven’t shot it because I simply enjoy the SBR more, I haven’t noticed any resonance, I hear the action, slight muzzle blast, and the supersonic crack.

How do you like the .277 wlv? I really want to build one now instead of going .300 blk, several months ago I listened to a podcast that MDWS did with the AR-15 podcast and they mentioned the wolverine and I started researching it and it seems like a very good option.
I’m not setup to reload yet (I was, but we moved and I haven’t moved my table and press yet) but I’m a novice reloaded as well (only loaded 357 magnum and 38 special) but I need to get dies for .308, 556, and 6.8 as well as .40.

    My 5.56 SBR is a 10.5”.

The WLV is pretty awesome. Plenty of power for the hog hunting I used to do down south and accurate. I have a 1:7 barrel so I can shoot subs, 200gr is pretty fun and quiet. My supersonic load is a 90gr gold dot at 2650fps. A guy I know up here killed a caribou this winter with a 95gr TTSX from his 18” WLV.

5.56/.223 doesn't suppress well no matter what as it's just moving too fast. I even have dedicated 5.56/.223 cans and they're still loud.

If you don't yet have one I HIGHLY suggest getting a SBR'd 300BLK rifle & running subs through it suppressed. I've got one of the AAC 9" uppers and it's one of the funnest firearms I own. Sending a 220gr projectile downrange and hearing only the action cycle and the thud as it hits the dirt berm is spectacular and a sound I never tire of hearing... or not hearing for that matter. AAC and Remington developed the round specifically for use in a suppressed SBR and this upper was developed specifically around that exact setup. IMO this setup is what shooting suppressed is all about.

I just realized I misspoke, my 556 is an 11.5, I’m wishing I had gone with 11.5 though just to make it a little bit shorter, when I got the suppressor I went from a 7” to the 11.5 and I really like how short the 7” was.

Is it difficult to find 200 Gr .277 bullets? I haven’t looked into the components so I don’t really know what’s available if I decide to jump into that caliber.
The 90 grain gold dot is one of my favorites for the 6.8, I would probably load them for defense/hunting rounds.

I’ve never shot 300 blk suppressed and I really want to, but I think I’d rather go .277 wlv over 300 blk because I have my .22 if I want Hollywood quiet, and supersonic 300 blk isn’t really what I want for hunting, while I don’t think the .277 is quite as quiet as the 300 blk it’s more versatile, won’t chamber in a 556 chamber, and reloading components are inexpensive.

    I wish my 6.8 was 1:7 rather than 1:11.25.
    Those 175’s look impressive!

Any recommendations (price-not-an-issue) for a 9mm suppressor for the new Ruger 9mm Carbine? I’d like a small o.d. is only preference.

I would check out the Rugged obsidian in either 9 or 45, the dead air Ghost M, liberty mystic X, or Griffin Revolution 9 or 45.
All of these cans have a diameter of 1.375 or very close to that, personally I wouldn’t go for a smaller diameter than that as you will lose considerable volume which is what makes a suppressor effective.
Are you looking for a small OD to clear sights? Or just to remain small?
If looking to clear sights then I would recommend looking at a Eccentric (off center bore) can, such as the Silencerco osprey, or I believe Gemtech makes an eccentric suppressor that’s round instead of the rectangle like silencerco’s.

I wanted to post this before I forgot, I need to add it to one of the first posts when I have access to a computer.

This is how dirty 556 runs in an ar platform, this Pmag was like new and then had 60 rounds fired through it using the Optimus and an 11.5” barrel, as you can see there is quite a bit of carbon that gets thrown into the mags.

I enjoyed reading this it definetly answered some questions for me
But I just want to make sure of this:
You're saying if I get a suppressor that fits a larger caliber like my AK, I can take that same suppressor and put it on my AR and it will still work?

If I put a larger caliber suppressor onto a smaller caliber rifle, will it affect the level of suppression versus buying a suppressor specifically for that caliber?

Also should you worry about cleaning suppressors like you would a rifle or just keep using them? If I'm paying 200$ for a tax stamp, waiting 7-8 months on top of the cost of the suppressor I'm gonna try my damndest to make sure it's gonna last as long as it can

It sounds like the one you got on your rifle can cover most calibers and I'm interested in that

I just started looking into buying a suppressor last week and I'm trying to learn as much as I can. It would be really neat to just buy one that can handle most guns that I have

Glad I could help, if you have more questions don’t hesitate to ask.

Correct, as a general rule of thumb you can shoot smaller diameter bullets through large caliber cans.
There are certain exceptions (very high pressure cartridges, typically pistol) but the majority of people won’t run into that issue.

Rifle calibers .223 and above you don’t need to worry about cleaning, the velocity of the gasses make it essentially self cleaning, however if you use Cast lead bullets (such as for 9mm or 300 BLK subsonic) then you would want to take apart the can and clean occasionally. Rimfire is dirty so those do need to be cleaned.

The Griffin Optimus is a great “first” can, it’s a jack of all trades, master of none but I’m pretty impressed with what it does do, it’s kind of heavy for a rifle can, and because of the 1 3/8” diameter (vs 1.5”) you lose some effectiveness but it still sounds good to me, it seems to be fairly close to other pistol cans in the K (short) configuration (6.6” for the Optimus, whereas other pistol cans are around 6” in the short configuration and 7.5-8” in th full size configuration.

The silencershop website is a great resource for comparisons, shopping around, and learning more about the buying process.

And no, NFA probably has another 60 years on its plate, VERY hard to get rid of all because some of it does make sense.

Because people don't kill, suppressors do!
Back in '67 my folks bought me my very own .22, a Marlin Golden 39A. Bought from Sears, delivered by our rural mailman. And left leaning against the mailbox. My, how
    things have changed.
Edit to add: RIP Mom and Dad. Mom passed in '77, Dad last year.
