Water in trailer wire harness

I had to tap into the reverse light lead, and decided I would use the one for the trailer harness under the truck, so behind the bumper. I was shocked to discover it was full of water. not a few drops, but a lot of water. My truck is not seen rain or puddles for at least three weeks, which concerns me. This seems like this will be a major point of corrosion, and I can’t come up with a great way to seal it due to the shape of the connection. If you look at it it it has a gray housing that basically forms a cup, with no way for the water to get out.

I thought about drilling a very tiny hole but I’m not sure I want to commit to this yet. I may check it in a few days and blow it out with the compressor and wrap it up with a good electrical tape, go a little overboard with it

Has anyone else made this observation and come up with a better solution?

 

Any chance the water is hitting the plastic connector that snaps into the trailer socket....(rear)

That's where H2o has been coming into the tag lites.

Maybe silicone would seal that area..?

Its definitely sitting in the grey plastic cap, not sure hows it gets there just yet.

 

Sounds like you need to do a trailer harness breather mod...

I was actually thinking I would use some spray on electrical tape, and then put some dielectric grease in there

To be fair, its probably the simplist solution. A small drain hole would work, especially if drilled at an angle to prevent road spash

 

PLus 1 on the dielectric grease after you find how its getting in there.....!!
