Bottom line up front, has anyone encountered a leak at the shark fin, or has this always been at the brake light? Here's the long version:

-A long distance trip is planned to start very soon.

-A short trip (weekend) just ended. Upon washing the road crap off the truck & travel trailer, a leak was found (wet headliner, dead center, dripping on the center headrest).

-A limb fell on the windshield last year, and the entire cab was repainted. The collision shop listed R&I for shark fin, but not the 3rd brake light, my guess is to bill hours to insurance. Truck is still under warranty, but I'm not sure what kind of runaround I may get from the local service centers because this issue could be caused by a 3rd party collision shop. I'm sure the collision shop can get this done, but I'm not sure I want to give them Tuesday to look at it, Wednesday to order it, maybe Thursday to install it... Keep in mind, this is not billable hours.

-It's very possible (to avoid upsetting trip plans) I'll be buying the part out of pocket, and I want to limit this to one repair attempt. Has anyone heard or seen of a leak at shark fin? Any guess what the light assembly runs? Are these still on backorder?

If the fin and/or cab light was touched from stock, that would be a good place to start. Somehow a lot of folks have had issues with it sealing after disturbing it in any way.

Very good chance the repairs are the culprit.

My 3rd brake like leaks a little bit... hit it with a kayak. Look close at your brake light for a split seam. My headliner doesn't get wet that I know of but some water is getting into the cabin.

Got a good deal on replacement part from epay of all places.

So this is going great... Took the truck to the collision shop that last touched it who referred me to a dealer service center a few miles north who said it's common, it's under warranty, and they just needed to see the truck to make sure another tree didn't fall on it or something, and they could order it and have it delivered the next day. Drop the truck off and a few hours later, I get a call that it's on backorder. I come to pick up the truck the next day and a couple jackoff service techs are driving around in it. I had to get to deal with work immediately after, but there will be a conversation tomorrow.

It takes one dickhead to pull a truck around for a customer. If there are two in the truck, at 12:45, and there is a fucking deodorant stain on the door, they took your truck to lunch.

Mine leaked. Every thread I’ve read has the same story “it’s on backorder”. A few days later they have it in. So far, no more leak.
