I just bought a pair of switches from ch4x4.com to control a couple of accessories that are power and ground/neg only and want some confirmation if I can about how I think they should be wired up.

The "instructions" say green is for source, red 1 is for the relay or accessories, red 2 is for dash light, and black is ground. That's it.

What I am thinking is green will go to the battery, red 1 to the red line of the accessory or relay, red 2 will splice into the fuse panel somewhere, and black will go to the accessory black with another line also connecting the battery. Does this sound right to anyone else?

Also since one of the accessories is a relay to control power to the winch, I'm guessing I should put a fuse on the green line (power from battery to switch). Any suggestions on how big of a fuse? Should it be closer to the battery or the switch - or does it not matter?

    Thanks!

Green can go to battery with an inline fuse, or to a fuse slot using an add a fuse. Take black to ground directly without attaching to the ground of the accessory. This will prevent possible feedback through the circuit. Use a relay. And wire as described above.

-Green is 12 volts that will connect to Red #1 when the switch is actuated.

-Red #1 will route the 12 volts to the relay when the switch is actuated thus energizing the relay to turn on the accessory.

    - Red #2 is to provide illumination on the switch itself. 3 options to connect it. 1) connect it to red #1 and the switch will light up when actuated. 2) connect it to an illuminated dash light such as another switch and it will light up (and dim) with your dash lights. 3) don't connect it to anything

    - Black is tied to ground.

A fuse is not really necessary for the switch if using a relay. The fuse should be inline with the source power for the accessory (usually the battery) and the relay.

I should add that you should get 12 volts for the Green from the fuse box via an add a fuse tap which will fuse the switch. So you can kinda disregard the part of the paragraph above about not fusing the switch itself.

It states 3 amp no more than that for the inline fuse for the switch.

So red wire to battery. Rule of thumb the online fuse should be 18 inches or less to the battery. So make a 18 inch or less jumper from batter to inline fuse. Then the other end to the switch.

Take the acc. Lead and go to something that only comes on with the key is in the acc. Position.
Red 2 wire goes to a wire that is to a dash light. So when you turn your lights on the switch lights up. And the ground should be as short as possible from the switch.

Below is a write-up I did using CH4x4 switches on a 3rd gen. It may have helpful info for you.
