What happens is the clip that occurs causes a dc voltage which is bad for the coil and will burn it out.

They tell you to drill a small pilot hole and use a screw.
Also I mounted my connector through the front and not rear as I have seen others to keep it out of the mechanics of the door. Used foam insulation tape wrapped over the connector to prevent rattles.

Yep, and the clip cause it to maintain the voltage for an extended period time, which causes a build up of heat. Ill know hopefully next week when I install my amp if there is any clipping occurring of the stock radio. From what Ive read, there isnt.

Awesome to learn about the Subaru tweeters, kudos to OP. FWIW to everyone upgrading door speakers, 6.5s are generally going to be better than 6x9s. 6x9 is kind of a neglected format and, while it has less cone surface area, the 6.5 format is where all of the competition is so you're going to have newer tech and more options which means better performance at a given price point.

So Now I'm so happy with my speaker swap I'm thinking about an amp. Any thoughts on either the ********* setup or adding an Alpine Power Pack . If anyone's got one I'd like to hear about it.

I installed the Kicker Subaru tweeters last night and they did make a big difference in sound. I've also got the Kicker door speakers on order so I should be just about set.

Yeah you know I really have no idea why I didn't think "just make your own hole into the mount plastic you moron". I guess I was just so frustrated at the time, it never occurred to me, and zip-tie was the first thing that came to mind. I really dont think the speakers are going to come loose in the mounts, but if they do, i guess i will just rip the door panels back off and remount them.

If you hadn't bought the doors yet, would you still get them after the tester upgrade?

I installed the speakers in the OP and added an amp to run them and 2 10" subs with a separate amp to run those. It's really clear and my son loves it. I posted about it somewhere in this thread.

Thanks. I'm leaning towards the ********* setup with Rack. Amp has pretty good specs too.

Yeah, I think so. I pulled the door panels off to check out the stock speakers and they are very cheap. For the price of the door speakers it wasn't a hard decision. I spend almost 2 hours in my truck each day so a good sounding system is a must. I just don't know what I waited so long to pull the trigger.

ok. I'm sure it has been mentioned before, but volume on the new speakers...assuming that no external amp is added. Does the volume get as high as the factory speaker without becoming distorted? I have a problem now with the OEM that i have to really crak it to hear it if the windows are down.

Yes, for me I can actually turn it louder than OEM. That said, with windows down on the highway or A/C running full blast, it struggles to overcome, but does it much better than the OEM speakers. You could say that about any stock or non-heavily-amplified system, though.
