I agree with this statement completely. I recently had a grinding in my 5spd tranny when shifting from 5th to 4th and MT90 completely eliminated it. I was getting worried I was going to have to replace the trans from worn synchros

Redline MT90 and their gear oils are true Group V poly ester synth base stocks and one of only a very few on the market, that’s why it costs so much. I’m a huge fan.

Anyone in here know why the 5speed uses almost a gallon of fluid vs the 2quarts for the 6spd?

My 5spd is 2wd so maybe that has something to do with it?

I have never tried the MT 90 but amsoil gear oil is great as well. Smooth shifts and no more third gear grind.

I think I'm going to do the same. MT-90 showed up today, will just go with Mobil 1 in the diffs and save some money.

I saw they sold the MT-90 in a 12 pack for $10/ea vs $20. Should have probably just got that, but I just bought 3 singles. Where did you get the 4 pack?

Hmm I didn't see that. Maybe it was the gallon container?

I tried them both. In fact, I have tried a number of oils including Amsoil, dino oil, Toyota factory oil, Lucas, and others. Amsoil is a very good oil, but in the Tacoma manual, at least in my manual, the Redline was without a doubt the best. I now have 170,000 miles on mine with Redline.

That’s good to know. I will prob try the MT 90 on the next change. The amsoil was night n day difference compared to the reg stuff that was in there.

    Quick question,

I have an Xrunner and right now i have the shifter out of the truck since it's being modified by Coupe.

With the shifter out, it looks like the transmission could be filled from the top (inside the truck w/ the shifter out). Is this true? I'm thinking of just pulling the drain plug, letting it drain for a few hours (to make sure everything gets out, or as much as possible). Then i'll just pull the fill plug and have someone supervise it while I pour from the inside of the truck.

    Any objections to this?

    Let me know,

    Thanks,

    - Michael

Perfect. This definitely seems like the way i'll go.

Currently, just the shifter is pulled. Do you think it's a smart idea to essentially pull the top plate/and the aluminum bracket to get more surface area to pour or...?

    What do you think?

    Let me know,

    Thanks,

    Michael

At Step #3 - What Torque to tighten the drain plug to (and what about the Torque setting for the Fill plug) to?? Thanks!

oh I beg to differ. The best of the best is GM 12346190. I've used both and the MT-90 does not hold a candle to the GM MTL. You have not lived until you have run this stuff in a 6 speed

It was developed under a specific contract with Castrol to address syncro and other shifting issues and heat dissipation in the GM/Chrysler NV4500 trans. A true blue fully synthetic 75w-90 dedicated manual transmission gear oil, with rare extreme pressure protection but meeting required GL-4, super-smooth shifts and performs fabulous when super cold or hot.

Problem is it seems to be suddenly and unexpectedly disappearing :(. I went to get a couple of quarts last week and it appears that it might be superseded by another MTL. We shall see....

Ordered some MT-90. Gonna swap it for the stock oil I have in there now...:anonymous:

Yes indeed. The new part number has me bugged at the moment as I do not know why it has been done. I hope the formula or specs have not changed. It also has an ACDelco part number of 10-4059 and I have found about 8 qts. It also has Chrysler/Mopar part number but I would have to dig for that one but I'm told it is pretty pricey at the Dodge dealers.

This stuff really is that good IMHO.
