Not going to happen....went back to my original 16" TRD Pro wheel choice because the steel wheels were going to:

1- be $90/each new as I couldn't find them used
2- be $150/each to powder coat which is crazy $$.

Remember I live in not free and expensive Kanuckistan.

@Sna there is a big thread on IH8mud regarding good rattle can substitutes for the O.G. steel wheel color, and I think the originals were only painted grey on the outside, so it sounds like it is totally possible to DIY, as long as you strictly follow the paint mfg's surface prep, curing and temperature recommendations.

I would really like to do grey FJ 17" steelies with skinnies on my quicksand TRD OR, but it would end up being a pretty steep expense with TPS, because the alloy wheel sensors may not fit steel wheels.

I did think off just using rattle cans but with the weather where I live I would be doing them every couple of years and that is something I didn't want to worry about. I was also not going to run TPMS sensors...no sure that could be an option for you. I bought 16" TRD PRO wheels but the 17" FJ steelies powder coated dark grey would have looked great.

Looks sweet! We’re you able to fit the 255/85 spare under the truck? Or did it require some mods for the 3rd gen?

Don't know about him, but I had to get a bfh and move the two brackets underneath to make a 255 85 fit

Yes a 255 85 16r spare will fit if the tabs are hammered in.

Anyone regret getting 255/85R16's? Gearing wise? I'm having second thoughts about this size in favor of 265/75R16.

This is a great looking setup. You may have just sold me on 255's. Do you mind me asking what wheels and what width? Are they the VTX?

Is anyone running this set up from Colorado or a comparable state? I like the look a lot, but when I go places its often highway and through the mountains in Colorado as I am right in the foothills. I am curious if anyone has any input on driving stuff like that on this size tire. A few people touched a bit on shift points being messed up and if its going to be a nightmare driving hills or highway on stock gearing then that would be a deal breaker for me at this time. I'd rather not be hunting for gears every time I hit the hills or drive long distances. For reference, I have a 2010 DCSB off road with stock gearing. Any input on similar driving experience on this set up is greatly appreciated. Don't want to ruin my DD if all it means is compromising on a tire size to avoid that haha.

Finally got mine in and on. I had to do a bit of trimming of my fender, the tab that goes back under into the wheel well area. I might need a CMC, not sure yet. They're the Dick Cepek Extreme Countries on Procomp 16x8x4.5BS.

Of course I snapped a fucking stud by accident when my dog peed on my foot while running the impact. Oops. Fix that tonight I guess.

Speedo is about 4mph slow now. Didn't notice too much searching for gears going up the mountain, though it spends a bit more time in 4th than I'd like, but it's not bad enough I feel like a regear is completely necessary.

Does anybody have a second gen with 885/5100s in the front with factory OR wheels and 255/85r16s? I’ve searched but haven’t found this exact set up.

Albeit it's 17, but has done well on road, off roads, corners, you name it. Still need to wait for snow and sand will be tested in two months. I will say with the tires 4th and 5 and my saviours going up hill depending on the grade.
