Hearing some squealing and a tiny bit of vibration on the one that was warrantied. Going to hit it with some grease tonight but I'm thinking I'm too late and itll just be a bandaid fix.

    What should I do?

So that's why they put new drive shafts on my 08 when they did a frame replacement. Along with rear springs.

I have a 2009 DCSB 4x4, 165k miles, and its lifted. Do you think having it lifted will affect me being eligible for this replacement? I have always had a small vibration at takeoff, however funny enough, literally 1 week before receiving the letter about this issue, it started to get really really bad. I'm going on a 8hr drive in a few weeks and would like to get this done before then. Thoughts???

Who installed the 6 inch lift ? Was the drive line angle corrected when the lift was installed ?

Yesterday I started noticing a bit of a problem. When I was stopped in drive at the gas station, transmission dropped out of gear, I believe. Pressed the gas and the engine simply revved. Turned the car off and restarted but still the same issue. Put it into reverse and the back into drive and it was fine.
Had it happen one other time today.

Would this be related to the propeller shaft issue?

Want to take it in but not sure. As the dealership stated that if is not the problem, I would have to pay the $200 consult fee.

    No , not related .
You have a 4 speed automatic and the universal joints were polypropelyne from the factory .
Check your transmission fluid with the engine running in park .
The dipstick is at the rear of the engine compartment

Not true in my case. We bought a 2012 4x4 OR and it was CPO. I told the sales guy I would buy it as long as the take off vibration was fixed- he said no problem. We bought the truck and took it back to Bailey Toyota 8 times over 6 months and they finally refused to do any more work on it even though they couldn't fix it.
So our CPO had the dreaded vibration, the exhaust was leaking at the flange, the inner core of the drive shaft was loose, carrier bearing had about an inch of play and all four tires had separated belts.
They replaced the two worse tires with a pair they had around the shop- turns out the tires have been discontinued so I can't match the front two), replaced the T/C mount and driveshaft & carrier bearing through warranty. But as soon as the cost to repair was to come out of the dealerships pocket they refused to fix it. Called Toyota Motor Company and was told 'to deal with the dealer...'

    Dealerships are thieves!

Some, far too many, dealers suck--it seems the bigger they are the more they suck...

Hello.... I have never signed in and posted a issue but have read a lot of post that have helped me out. But I like a lot have been chasing the vibration problem in my Tacoma for a long while. I changed alot of parts and had finally narrowed it down to the drive shaft . I even removed the driveshaft and drove the truck down the road using the front wheels locked in 4x4 and yes no vibration. So I knew it was ujoints or shaft.. Then I got the letter for upgrade to ujoints and shaft if your vehicle had the vibration. I thought great now I can get this fixed. Well went to dealership today Roberts Toyota in Columbia Tn only for them to say they didn't see a issue.. Then after I question them it changed to well its tires and wheel vibration.. So I explained it went away when the driveshaft was removed... So next they said would not fix because it was a new after market shaft in truck.... I said whys that and they said it looks new... I said because when I had it out i hit it with a little fresh paint but its definitely the factory shaft... Didnt matter they were not fixing anything... So went home called Toyota Customer Service only to give all my info and concern to be out on hold forever then told they just go by whatever the dealer said so wasnt going to fix it.... So needless to say I got a little upset ... Finally told them i was highly disappointed in Toyota and their customer service... Why send out a recall and not fix a known issue.... I told them I will just buy a new driveshaft and install it myself and am 100% certain my vibration will be gone. Then I lastly said Thanks for nothing...
Isn't it a shame Toyota sends out a letter stating they know you have a Safety issue with your truck but then say BUT we are not going to fix it.... So why do we support Toyota ?
    Sorry for the long post

Similar to the shitty service I received from Bailey Toyota/ Toyota Motor Corp.

When people ask how I like my Tacoma I tell them 'Toyota builds tinfoil trucks and their dealers can't fix them'.

Bringing mine in on Thursday to get checked out the squeal at take off has gotten pretty bad with my truck, I have a very small lift hope that doesn't affect the dealerships decision to do anything.

Got my truck back today, new u joints, no more squealing noise and no issues from the dealer with my lift.

I hav no issues with my truck or my dealer, the fact that mine is 12+ years old and they keep fixing stuff for free is  in my book.

I didn't think about this extended warranty beforehand but I think I'm in this situation. While I drive my truck I can hear what sounds like drive train noise which is most prominent between speeds of 45 and 65 MPH. It is definitely related to the truck drive train speed, meaning if I disengage the transmission or shift gears the noise does not change, and it's not tire tread noise. At first I was thinking it could be the center drive shaft bearing but after reading about this, it very well could be the joints. But I've already had my axle replaced due to the transmission fluid leak from the output shaft, that was just over a year ago. I was told the entire shaft was replaced. So I plan to place my rear end on jack stands and then place it in gear and try to find the noise. Hopefully it will stand out. The noise right now, while in the drivers seat, sounds like it's coming from the output shaft area. My truck has almost 93K miles.

So, no letter but called and I qualify. Got an appointment with the dealer next week. But if they don't "find" anything wrong, am I responsible for the diagnostic fee?

My 2007 Tacoma is in the shop awaiting a frame replacement, along with other recall items - spiral cable, leaf springs, and this one. But it's probably still at least another month before I get it back...

Took my 05 into my local mechanic for annual inspection/emissions check up. He called to inform me that my rear u-joint on the drive shaft was about to grenade. I called local Toyota dealer and set up appointment to have it "checked out" for driveshaft issues stated in my letter from Toyota. It was squeaking/chirping like an SOB from mechanic to dealer. He didn't recommend driving very far or fast...(Lucky me, I just drove it approx. 2000 miles from WY to PA.) Got to the dealer and talked to tech about issue. They are going to check it out to confirm the problem and give me a call tomorrow. Fingers crossed that they cover it under warranty enhancement.

    UPDATE:
Toyota corporate saw the pics and approved the driveshaft replacement. Parts are ordered and the repair will be completed once they are in.

While they had it in there, they replaced the leaf springs on a different recall...
