I've spent most of the last two years trying to figure out how to register a 5th TPMS sensor in the ECU of my 08 Tundra, with no joy as of yet:

    • Purchased the TechStream dealer diagnostic tool. This tool does allow you to register TPMS sensors, however in the 08 Tundra it only offers (4) TPMS registration slots thanks to the value of "main tire" which is locked to a value of (4). Therefore TechStream will not allow you to register a 5th unless Toyota has enabled it for all 08 Tundras.
    • Purchased a "Bartec 400SD" TPMS tool. This tool does allow you to register TPMS sensors, however in the 08 Tundra it only offers (4) TPMS registration slots thanks to the value of "main tire" which is locked to a value of (4). Therefore Bartec 400SD will not allow you to register a 5th unless Toyota has enabled it for all 08 Tundras.
    • Purchased a "Toyota Intelligent Tester II" to see if it could do so. This tool does allow you to register TPMS sensors, however in the 08 Tundra it only offers (4) TPMS registration slots thanks to the value of "main tire" which is locked to a value of (4). Therefore "Toyota Intelligent Tester II" will not allow you to register a 5th unless Toyota has enabled it for all 08 Tundras.

My guess is that each of these tools is forced to refer to a vehicle-specific-profile that resides locally on the diagnostic tool, and that the profile contains guidance about what the various parameters and options are which are enabled for that specific make and model of vehicle. I suspect that the relevant parameter is the value called "main tire" which is presently set to (4). I would like to find where in the profile this parameter is located so that I could manipulate that value to (5) instead. Anything less and you're not going to get a 5th TPMS sensor registered.

I'm not sure if mine even work... I aired down to 20psi on some trails and my warning light never came on. :anonymous:

I had new tries rims and tpms installed, I wanted a summer set and winter set up. Using Tech Stream the dealer told me the Tacoma is only able to record 4 TPMS's and can not do a spare or second set like Lexus vehicles can. They gave me a print out of both sets, so when I want to change winter/summer I just hand them the paper and they go in manually and change it.

I would have done this, but my dealer cannot be trusted. So for $30 I do it myself every 3-5k miles.

MCDavis did you get a copy of Tech Stream to change the tpms I’d in the computer?

Yes, well Tech Stream Lite. Functionality is there though. Just did a rotation on Sunday and the TPMS registration took a whopping 6 mins.

I was digging around on techinfo.toyota.com.

Looks like the 2018 Camry is intended to support two sets wheels. The owner can then toggle between them on the dash without visiting the dealer. However the current version of TS doesn't yet support this feature. IT's nice to know someone is thinking about it.

2018 Camry Registering Winter Wheels or second set of tires with TPMS sensors.

    @MCDavis:

Is the process as simple as inputting the 4 “in use” sensors in the TPMS ID Registration within TechStream?

I just got my spare mounted on a matching rim and worked into the rotation. I tried setting the new one in the ID Registration, but I get a tire pressure dummy light on the dash and no pressures on the display. It starts as a slow flash, then turns steady. Reverting to the original 4 IDs clears the dummy light.

Just did my 15000 mile rotation this PM. Easy as opening TS. Going to the TPMS utility. Register IDs. Next next. Input 1-4 and close.
TPMS light flashes for a few seconds and goes away. 60mph+ cruise and all is good.
    Third time now.

You can enter them into each location so the truck won’t have to learn them on its own.
    See positions 1-4 below.

I also follow this rotation pattern

    Figured it out.

They put an incompatible sensor in. Back to the shop tomorrow.

You didn’t buy a Toyota TPMS?

Shop had one in stock, but apparently its for a second gen. It’s a Pacific PA66-GF30, but says “T1” in the middle, as where the correct one should say PMV-C015.

Is there actually a "Toyota" TPMS, or is it made by Denso. Pacific, etc?

My meaning was you didn’t buy one from Toyota, as I did, which did make the process a little easier, albeit a touch more spendy.

    Anyway, good luck.

Yes, you can’t see a fifth on the dash even if you can program it. You can put the TPMS on the spare. You won’t see it on the dash. When you rotate the tires register it (and the others) in their correct positions. You will see it on the dash but not the one now the “new” as spare.

Incorrect. It won’t automatically register, because it won’t be programmed in the system. The system only holds 4 IDs. You’ll have to have the “spare” ID inserted in place of the one being removed as one of the 4.

Agree. That was my intention on saying when you rotate resigister it.

I did a lot of work with TPMS as in my build thread and copied below:

    • TPMS experience:
      1. Got aftermarket ORO-TEK TPMS sensors installed when I ordered new wheels/tires online with a reputable site. Fine print on Invoice even said "Guaranteedcompatibility with 2017Tacoma" <- it pays to readfine print.
      2. After mounting wheels onTruck, the tire pressure idiot light and the dash pressure gauges did not reflectanything (light blinked for 1 minute and then stayed on, pressure on all 4 tires showed "---").
      3. Did the useless Toyota reset button dance for the fun of it.
      4. Using my Autel tools I did the relearn procedure...did not work...did the reset and unlock...did not work, I didsee it uploaded the Hex values to the ECU but the ECU and the TPMS were not talking to each other. Looked to me like compatibility issue as my Autel could see the ECU and the TPMS but they could not talk to each other.
      5. Reviewed ORO-TEKs documentation on the TPMS sensors (which was not easy as they are a knock-off of a knock-off China company), but I eventually found a fact sheet which showed ORO-TEKs compatability for Sienna/Sequoia and Tundrabut Not Tacoma.
      6. Called site I got the wheelpackage and they called ORO-TEK who confirmed the sensors were not going to work, nor does ORO-TEK have any yet that will.
        • SideBar: The most likely cause of the incompatibility is that the GEN III Tacomasexpect a 7 character HEX value for thesensors and the current aftermarkets are mostly just 6 character. This I read on some other sites and I confirmed I do have 7 character TPMS senors installed with my read tool.
      7. The site that sold me thewrong stuff stated only a Dealer had the propersensors but they would refund the cost, shipping and labor to reinstall.
      8. Got job done at local dealer, no problems, works well and fresh batteries.
    Lessons learned:
        • New Trucks with New Technology likely should start at the Dealer.
        • Forums have lots and lots of idiots who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.
        • Expensive trucks cost more to maintain as full retail for sensors will be $94 each next timearound.
        • It pays to have good tools.

Tire Rack is currently selling OEM sensors for $42 each. I think I paid around $60 2 years ago.
