Do BOLT Locks For Tool Boxes Work With The Tailgate Key?

New here. Getting a UWS box for my Tacoma, wondering if anyone knows if these:

Might have to get one of these if it works.

 

I'm going to guess it only uses half the key to push the pins and allow it to open. That being the case I'm thinking every toyota truck key will open it then. Would you really want a lock that every other toyota truck can open?

 

There are only 10 UWS keys, and the number of the key that opens the UWS lock is printed on the lock, so even if every other Toyota key can open it, it's still more secure then it is now.

 

I know this is an old post, but I just bought the BOLT 7023549 Toolbox Latch Retrofit Kit for Toyota Keys and I want to let anyone who's interested in buying one know what they are dealing with.

It does NOT work in the sense that the locking lever inside the latch isn't functional. The lock will key to your truck's key, BUT the locking mechanism needs to be redesigned because the latch can be forced open very easily.

This is as of 5/26/2018. I emailed BOLT through their website, and informed them.

If there was a fabricator that could bend up an appropriately-shaped lever that attaches to the lock cylinder, that makes this work, I'd be all over it.



Edit: I just saw that this is a 3rd gen forum. Even if the lock worked with the tailgate key, the locking mechanism would still not work. Just putting it out there.
