    Hello Forumites!

My 1st Gen 2000 SR5 V6 has OEM 14” 5-lug wheels. As it also sports a long rack and full tool box, the drive is not what one could correctly describe as secure. Also the tire selection is now extremely lacking in the 14-inch variety. I bought it way-back-when Michelin offered 225s in a 14”. They were wonderful!

I found a good deal on a set of 15” 5-lug 2005 Tacoma wheels so I jumped on it. Ordered a full set of 215/70/R15 Michelin Defender tires from Costco.

During the installation, Costco Service called to tell me: The wheels won’t mount! Not news to most folks, but it’s because of the hub-centric configuration.

So then I ordered 1.5" spacers off ebay

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/4pcs-5x114...VaotwW:sc:USPSPriorityFlatRateBox!90077!US!-1

Even though the page says they will fit, THEY DON"T! The hub hole is not big enough. Ever so slight, but the tire installer started with trying to mount one on the rear axle and the center hole is too small.

    Please help with some direction!

You bought used 15” toyota rims and they didn’t fit?? If you need spacers go look at sixty auto, thats what i run. Though there spacers are not hub centric i think like 71.1mm vs 67.1mm, second gen 5lugs had the smaller 60.1mm hub

Thank you for the replies. Through that helpful link I learned that the wheels I purchased have the smaller 60.1mm centerbore and the OEM is 67.1mm. Also the lugs are 1.5" and the 67.1mm 5 lug spacers I have located are 1.25" so there might be some grinding down of the OEM lug stems in my future.

The rims you must of bought wernt off a 01 tacoma, had to of been a 2nd gen. And what do you mean by the lugs?? The spacers i run have a different thread pattern then the hub so i just used 2 diffrent lug nuts. Which do stick past the top of the spacer but my wheels had enough clearance. Why don’t you just sell the rims and buy some cheap 15” steel rims which you can find for like 50$ a rim.

If the spacers don’t fit over the hub, have a machine shop bore the center out to the correct size. Also, the 5x114.3 bolt spacing is very common.

    http://www.roadkillcustoms.com/wheel-bolt-pattern-cross-reference/Default.asp

This place has a ton of info on factory wheels and sizes. I have a 5 pug and run dodge intrepid wheels, and ran 300zx wheels before that. Mostly look for matching hub and offset and you will be good. Also you can get hub rings to adapt from most hub sizes that are common.

And check that the lug nuts are the correct style for the new wheels.

Here's what is so frustrating: I am not an expert on wheels and such by any stretch of the imagination. I rely on others, in this case lugs-n-stuff on ebay, which has this listing:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/4pcs-5x114...rentrq:a29674361630aa49220a1362fffd2494|iid:1

Using the Compatibility Wizard from the listing, it tells me it is compatible with my 2000. Turns out it is wrong, which of course I didn't know when I ordered the set.

Using the Compatibility Wizard from this listing

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/25mm-Wheel...rentrq:a057b6221630a68826cf9f50fffd8f29|iid:1

it tells me that that this product is not compatible, but I have a suspicion that it is, if I account for the .25" difference in depth. It has the correct centerbore.

If I choose to keep the 60.1mm set and engage a shop to bore out the center to 67.1mm. what kind of machine shop could do that and what kind of a charge would be fair? Thanks for your input, forumites.

X2 and unfortunately ebays comparability chart is hit and miss for accuracy. I usually research a product from a reputable mfg. and based on the specs I then buy stuff from eBay/ Amazon based on my research not their charts.

Long wheel spacers tend to wear out wheel bearings faster. If this truck is your daily driver and you want to keep it reliable, I would sell the rims that dont fit then just buy a set of cheap steel rims

I did not realize that. Thanks so much for the sage advice. I'm going to find rims that are appropriate rather than pursuing seemingly endless and pointless alterations. No need to wear out more parts because of the shortcomings.

On the local Craigslist, I have found 15" rims which came off a Wrangler with seemingly all the correct dimensions.

As long as its 5x114.3 or 5x4.5 with atleast a hub center of 67.1mm and a bs of like 3.75” to 4” it shoulf be fine
