That's weird... I'm not sure. If you connected to the same points it should've worked as the CD player does stock with override. Maybe it's a different brand HU or something that acts differently?

I have the non-Bose, 6 disc radio and when I wanted to listen music from a mp3 player or my phone, meant earbuds. I consider getting a double din radio with all the latest gizmos, but that just wasn’t for me. Then I found this thread and thought this mod could be what I’m looking for. Some of the posts made the mod less appealing. While other posts gave me ideas about some of the gadgets out on the market that could basically do the same thing. So, I took a $20 gamble (free shipping) and purchased this

This thing works great. Was able to keep the steering wheel controls and I can switch between a CD and the aux input by pressing the “disc” button. The volume is a tad lower on the aux, but I can live with that.

I know most of y’all already have either a double din, or some other fancy schmancy entertainment system in you trucks. I posted this in case there’s some other old fogy looking to do the same with their antiquated radio.

Just want to say thanks for this thread. I recently upgraded to a 2005 with a stock radio (non-JBL, single disc) and... whaaaaa? No bluetooth or aux? I live in an area where aftermarket anything would be a target.

This works great! No bleed through... which is great, since I can't get the CD out!

Did this mod this weekend on my non-JBL 6CD player in my 08 AC. Huge thanks to @fbconvert, @Sandman614, and @yamabiker for your terrific write-ups and pics! I used three-core shielded audio wire (24AWG) I bought on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LNH8POQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&th=1. Used this headphone jack: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JNR4PXN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

All went very smoothly - I grounded the wire on the side of the head unit underneath a screw for the side panel. I drilled a hole next to the 'TEXT' button for the jack. I burned a silent CD as recommended, but I also tried it with a regular CD playing underneath audio from my iPhone and I couldn't hear it at all, even in-between songs when the stereo audio was maxed out and the iPhone audio was very low. Might be due to the shielded audio wire, I'm not sure, but the audio from my phone is crystal clear.

Also, I recommend taking a ton of photos as you take the CD player and head unit apart because it will help a lot when putting the unit back together.

Did this modification a few years back on my 08 Tacoma and is still running strong.

I cut an aux cord open and soldered the red/black wires to positive and negative CD audio pins on the circuit board and drilled a small hole out of the dash for male end of aux to feed through. Then used a female to female aux adapter to plug a longer aux into to use my phone (trying to use what I had laying around).

I just place a CD upside down in the disc player till it reads "CD error" and can play music all day long no issues.

Just did this mod on my 2005 JBL system and it worked perfectly! I’ll try and post a picture of the input location soon.

My 2010 has factory AUX jack that hasn't been used since I installed a new HU in 2013; I was happy with the factory radio, but I really wanted a backup camera and Bluetooth, so that's why I replaced mine, and also I didn't have JBL so my factory speakers sucked...
