Hey guys from the western / southwestern states, what kind of air filter do you use when offroading in heavy dust ?
OEM or aftermarket paper filter ? K N or Afe Power filters ? Dry or oiled ?
What's the best option to protect your engine ?

Im interested in your thoughs .

I've to drive my Taco on dusty unpaved roads, I've to follow or to pass bigs trucks who raise tons of dust.
When checking my air filter, it looks like you open a whole can of cocoa powder.

I use the afe cold air intake system but I am running a Donaldson powercore filter on it. More efficient and is warrantied for 100,000 miles under any driving condition.

It is not cleanable. It is said to last 100k, how ever I would probably run no more than 50k on mine. If you can piece together the afe stage 2 intake with out one of their filters, you can just buy this filter. Volant 61515 is the part number for the donaldson filter. Don’t bother with the afe filter they are junk in terms of filtering dirt (My opinion).

Of course the stock air box is pretty good at filtering too. You could maybe run a snorkel with a precleaner to help prevent some of the dust getting to the main filter.

    Good luck

I have one (Safari snorkel), but in my last journey I picked up so much dust in my filter, than I ordered a Donaldson pre cleaner Topspin.
    I think that'll be good.

Who did you get your filter from? Tried to order one through Summit and they said the manufacturer discontinued it.

The last time I got an oil analysis done they said silicon was high, probably due to poor air filtration. I'm using the Pro-DryS, so I was looking for something better.

I used the Afe Pro-DryS for a while.
This filter has a lot of good reviews, BUT I think these are reviews from folks who drive only on paved roads.

I don't use this filter anymore.
Finally I run OEM filter + snorkel, and I'll be totally secure after installing the pre cleaner on the snorkel.

I run oem filter+snorkel+filter sock over snorkel. I am interested to try one of these or hear a review on these from someone.

I found mine on Amazon. Good to know they are discontinued, I may have to buy a backup just incase.
