im always 50/50 on where i want my fridge. on one hand it stays clean in the cab and i can grab drinks out with ease but its also easier to cook with it in the bed..

That is the worst possible place you could put an electronic cooling device. Thst being said, I have a dometic fridge center console. I bought window deflector things and keep them down a little, and I always try to park so there is a crosswind component so it will evacuate the heat out. I haven't had any problems yet.

Definitely not the best for down here but it’s worked great in Alaska where it rarely gets over 80°.

Yea I got mine through dometic for much less on Amazon even. That’s surprisingly high.

OK well I have a question, what happens when you have a fridge set to 40°, and it get below 40° outside? The compressor shuts down for sure, and the temps just start falling inside the fridge?

I take it out when I stop camping, usually when temps drop to below 20°. I keep my fridge at an indicated 27° and when it’s cold out the compressor doesn’t run. I take the fridge out before it gets much colder since I don’t know how it would react to extreme negative temps. If I do any camping colder than that I don’t need a fridge to keep food from spoiling.

Right now the 40 is $742 shipped and the 50 is $805 on Amazon. Still $50 cheaper to go through the GB

We got a IndelB TB51 with the cover for the camper. There's nowhere inside the camper so I'm building a 24x24x60" box to mount to the tongue. The box is configured to allow for the required air space around the fridge it's the sun heating up the box that has me concerned. The box is steel so I got a piece of 1.8 aluminum diamond plate that'll be spaced a couple of inches above the box to reflect the sun and the space as an insulator. Ther'll also be 2 4" vents towards the bottom on the front and toward the top in the rear to allow cross ventilation. The box will have the fridge on one side and storage on the other so I cut a hole in the devider and filled it with expanded metal for even more ventillation

Keeping the fridge as cool as possible is my goal if all this doesn't work I'll mount a 12v fan in the top of the box.

I've been thinking bedliner for durabillity. Which adds to my concern for the heat

fridge will be mounted on the drawer slide also so all we need to do is open the door and slide the fridge out for access

Well, if you can pull it out when your stopped, and only store it in bad weather, nighttime, or while moving....I don't see why it wouldn't work

Kinda my thinking. It'll be secured at night or when we leave the campsite but while we're there I can actually open both doors and allow free flowing cross ventillation. It's been a busy last month, I extended the tongue and installed a lock n roll hitch, fabbed a spare tire mount and relocated it to the rear, added lights, building this box has been a good sized project on its own now I will extend the frame to support the box all the way across. Most of it's i n the camper build toward the end

I ordered boat vents which are suppose to keep water out :fingerscrossed: since the fridge will mount sideways in the containment area o was planning on the lowe vents being at the level of the compressor vent. Yes I plan on insulating at least the top of the box on the inside every little bit helps and if still not enough I’ll install the 12v roof vent

The mighty '95 Eurovan conquers all roads, errr, 2WD roads, err, dry 2WD roads with a 109HP@4500/140tq@2200 motor, 4spd autotrans, and FWD/1WD!!!

First Colorado offroad fishing trip with this bugger, actually not bad. It's like having a 22RE motor in a 5500lb fully-equipped camper.

I weighed it equipped for dry camping with 17g fresh water, 21g gasoline, generator, one 20lb LP bottle, full 20lb LP bottle on the van, some basic tools, little of this, little of that. 5552lbs, door sticker says 6173lb GVWR.

9.75" ground clearance through the middle of the chassis, climbed fine on some dirt/rock switchbacks, there was some 1WD slippage. True 2WD would be nice. 20mpg. It's a comfortable camping unit.
