I have a 2017 TRD Pro Taco in the cement paint job. I am already getting sick of putting my two dogs in the back seat so considering a camper shell. I'm not a huge fan of them but functionality is beginning to take a higher priority than form. I still would like to mix things up so I don't look like every other truck out there so I was considering a black shell even though my truck is cement. I think it might look interesting with all the black accents on the TRD Pro. I have also considered maybe the ARE Overland cap matched to the truck's color since it has the black accents. I think the black top would look cool, I am concerned that it might not look good unless it's more of a satin to flat finish. Might look weird if it's shiny when all the black on the truck is flat. What are ya'lls thoughts about this idea?

Flat/Satin Black will be very hot for the dogs.

    It would look good though.

They would only be in there when I'm on the move and I'd get a shell with big sliding windows for lots of air movement.

Makes a much easier to clean surface that bedliners with chopped rubber in them.

Still do it in the 'correct' black to compliment your truck.

If you have the space and desire, it might be possible to find a used unit and refinish it yourself.

I think bedliner would be quite heavy, and our trucks are marginal with payload already.

I think a cement truck with a matte black canopy would look pretty good. Also, since "black goes with everything", you might have an easier time selling it down the road, or get more money for it.

That's true, I wasn't thinking about the added weight of a bedliner paint. Not sure how much it would be but obv more than normal paint.
I just found this video on YouTube, his truck is at least grey and gives me a feel of what it would look like. I like it....

You can get most of the ARE models with the entire thing coated in the product they use on the accents of the Overland. I would have gone that route if I'd ended up with an ARE.

Also, bedliner doesn't actually add as much weight as the rumor machine would have people believe. Line x estimates less then 90lbs for the entire exterior of a full size truck.

I would get a color matched cement and do a black vinyl wrap kit. Since Toyota has made the cement available on other models, it would help for resale if it was color matched in the end. I was debating black with my mgm & am happy I went color matched modding the cap to my liking.

With cement, a black camper shell would look good. Like you said, having the finish similar to the black that is already on your truck would make it even better.

You'll get mixed opinions on whether a camper shell should match or not. Some people like them to match. Some don't care. I think it all depends on the two colors. Black and cement works IMO. Cement with a tan, green, or yellow top? Nope.

Life got in the way for a while, but it's on order now. I should have it in a few weeks and I will definitely post pics. I ended up doing the ARE CX with the OTR paint job. Sliding/drop down front window, side sliding windows.

I also ordered the new N-fab Predator Pro nerf bars and was one of the first Taco's to get them! They look awesome however sometimes being first is not best. They made a mistake with the design for the Tacos and the bars touched the frame. N-fab has been super though about keeping me in the loop on the redesign they're working on and getting me new bars ASAP. So I'll have pics of both.

Did you get the top yet? I am in the same boat, not sure i want to go with cement or black. I priced the ARE one with the bed liner and I dont really feel like spending over $2400.

Okay here's an update. Showing the ARE top and the Predator Pro bars..... I happy with the OTR, I think it looks much cooler than if I had done a color match.

I just picked up a long bed cap at a steal and saved several thousand. I feel like I should have used those savings to color match, and one day I will, but for now I just derped it black
