I immediately went into the Army for 3 years (27E TOW/Dragon missile systems repair), 1985-88.
California State University, Chico ("Chico State"), BS in Computer Engineering, class of 1993.
While in college, I did a 7 month internship in the Information Technology ("IT") unit at Intel. Went back to Intel as a full time employee after I graduated with my degree. Gotten laid off a couple times in my career, still in the IT industry, though currently working for a health insurance company.

Trained all summer to play football made it as a walk on but couldn’t afford tuition so enlisted into the Army went 11B (infantry) first 2 years. Realized it sucked no career outside of the military so reclassed into air traffic best thing I ever did.

Figured I would update my own thread since I am now officially out of high school :amen:. I finished with a 4.4 GPA which me and my parents are super proud of (I might be getting a set of OME coils that I have been putting off since I’m really tight with my money) and I got into all my colleges I applied to (UVA, VT, and JMU). I was between UVA (my parents are alumni) and JMU (my brother will be a senior there this fall) and I ultimately decided to go with JMU since I liked the campus and overall atmosphere much better. I will be majoring in Chemistry while also following the pre-dentistry program. Hopefully it all goes as planned.

Had a daughter right out of high school so I took every single job I could get my hands on while attending college in my “spare time”.

Never actually got my degree but did enough in school and a lot of hands on in the field to work for an engineering firm as a mechanical designer. Stayed in the field for 10 years working my way up through the ranks while still taking odd jobs to keep bills paid. Eventually got to the point where I was in Production Management with 100+ metal fabricators under me in a company doing $50+ million annually.

Hated working 60+ hours/6 days a week with another 18 hours a week commuting so I ended up resigning and started Mobtown Offroad with @jowybyo

    And here we are.

Good for you. The military is not right for everyone, I would have failed so bad. I don't do stupid shit, just because that's how we do it. If you know how to think for yourself you will do much better.

I went to Washington state right out of high school. graduated with a civil engineering degree and have been working in the field for 9 years now. Having watched lots of friends fail out of college because they did not want to try and do absolutely nothing. Those friends are struggling in crap jobs with no future. If they had to do it again they would all say they wished they had finished school.

Just make sure to stay focused, don't skip class, pay attention and have some fun.

Hopefully I will continue with my responsibility that I’ve had during high school. I usually didn’t procrastinate much unless it was an English paper but I won’t be needing to do much of that. I think the main reason I focus more than other people is 1) cause my mom taught me it and I’m more like my mom than my dad and 2) my brother is pretty much the opposite of me (doesn’t try as hard or commit himself as much and focuses more on the fun side of things like partying and drinking) and I’ve learned what not to do in order to get things done.

I should be relatively okay as long as I don’t undergo some kind of major character change once I’m introduced to the college scene (which I’m sure happens to many people)

Enlisted in the Guard and went to college at the same time. Was the best decision for me. Years later and still in building a great second retirement.
